Age Appropriate Makeup?

Hey everyone!

I started wearing lipgloss and light powder at 13 and slowly upgraded to eye shadow and liner...

However, I saw my little 10 year old cousin the other day and she was wearing lip gloss, eye shadow, and blush! I personally thought that was inappropriate for a TEN YEAR OLD (and argued with my aunt about it, she saw my point in the end :/ ) My cousin is only allowed to wear lip gloss now.

I'm wondering what you all think? What's the appropriate level to begin wearing any cosmetics? When does it go too far?

Maybe a little light eyeshadow would have been okay, but especially just because of younger girls' complexions in the first place, blush is a huge no-no to me!

When I have kids they can have 'play' makeup when they're younger - and literally only to play with, not to wear all day - and then once they're maybe junior high age i'll start introducing them to real makeup.

I didn't start going all crazy with my makeup until I was 17! I started wearing lip gloss in middle school, and threw in a light pink eyeshadow in 9th grade. Eyeliner came shortly after, about halfway through 9th grade. I started wearing powder foundation in 9th grade as well. But I didn't start really getting into it until my senior year of highschool.

I'd say anything beyond a lip gloss, probably high school.. although I think it really just depends on the individual. In my mind, it's a matter of discussing what's appropriate and I'd much rather teach them good skincare and proper technique for light application - then to forbid it and have them go overboard anyway.

Tamara, I definitely see your point. Forbidding them could cause them to rebel and sneak it on at school....

I'm very happy that my mom always taught me that skincare comes first ^-^

Tamara and Victoria: My family was one of those who forbid me to wear makeup or paint my nails or anything, I wasn't even allowed to try stuff. This caused me in high school to bring a whole goth outfit, goth makeup, goth everything to school and change in the bathroom. It was terrible, I admit, but I wouldn't have done it if I were allowed to have makeup on at all.

Eep, a lil late to the part, but honestly. As long as she isn't wearing mascara, liner or foundation. I'd be okay with it!

I think those little fun pallettes you get for kids with the blush and eyeshadows are a good way of starting early with a lil colour!

Edit: I don't need blush thanks to my rosy cheeks but I wore both eyeshadows and lip gloss at that age. They where only like pinks and purples but it was a bit of fun

All I use to wear when I hit 17 was eyeliner and lipgloss. When I was 20 I started with everything else.
