I'm not sure what palette to buy. What are your favorites?

I have the 88 Piece Makeup Palette I love it, its a great mix of matte and shimmer.

All 4 of the 88 Palettes, the 10 pc blush palette & the corrector & concealer quads. ALL wonderful!

I just answered to a similar post....
Just heard from a Kandee Johnson that the costal scents palettes are horrible for you. They contain tons of toxins including lead... I threw mine out and returned the one I got my sister for christmas! For an $18 palette, I guess you get what you pay for... I would stay away.

Thanks for the update? Do you remember where you heard Kandee Johnson say that?

I have never heard that about the coastal scents pallettes and they are so popular that is scary!! When did Kandee say this?

I've never heard it either. I'm sure it would apply to the same palettes from BH Cosmetics though? I'm interested in seeing when she said this as well.

Yes, please share, wouldn't they have to list that in the msds?

I was at her Glaminar this weekend in SF... She asked who had the palette and I think I was the only one who raised my hand lol. She then said to toss them and explained how they contain lead (which is illegal to have in cosmetics) and other toxins.

Most cosmetics contain "toxins" to some degree (see parabens, titanium dioxides, etc.). I find it hard to believe that many products would pass FDA/FDC/whatever it's called inspections containing lead. I called Coastal Scents and spoke with someone who assured me each and every single product is inspected and passes the guidelines, as well as the packaging.

I understand if some feel the need to discontinue use, but I'm not concerned. :\

I looked up the msds, called them as well, honestly, I'm not concerned either.

The blush palette is beautiful and covers alot of colors. Also im really enjoying the 88 shimmer palette id recommend it to anyone.

There has always been a question about the safety of 'no name' palettes. I remember there was a bit of a scare when they first became popular (along with the 120) palette.

Even though there are plenty of suppliers in North America (as opposed to buying them from E-bay), they still are manufactured in China. That fact really freaks people out, even without concrete evidence.

If this is such an issue, how come Kandee hasn't made a video about it? Or why haven;t other gurus said anything to warn people? I have 2 palettes, and will not be throwing them away because 1 person said they're bad.

@kristen i. a lot of the guru's get products from coastal scents for free (quite frequently) so that could be why they haven't made a review about the contents of the product. i really like coastal scents quality for the price. a lot of cosmetics contain 'harmful' type ingredients which with long term exposure over time can be harmful to your body. it's always best to go natural if you can but short term use of these type of products should not affect you in the long term as far as health issues.

Brittany S. See, I have a problem with that now. Gurus are keeping information away from viewers and subscribers because they get an item for free? I think if they know something is wrong with the product then they should state it in their review

I don't think anyone would be using the product if they knew, for a fact, it contained lead. I don't think they would harm their personal health for the sake of one free makeup product.

According to Kandee (her talk about coastal scents at the SF glaminar), you never see videos of artist speaking negatively about coastal scents because the company is a little threatening and DO NOT like artists speaking out against their products. The quality is ok and I do love the colors, but after hearing from a professional to throw it out, I'm definitely going to take her advice.

As far as what the product contains, I'm highly doubtful the company is 100% honest about how safe their products are. Ethically, they should be but realistically they aren't. Let's look at the bright side... it's more of a reason to try and experiment with other great brands! :)

I think it's definitely a matter of "to each their own" in this situation. If you feel it's unsafe, don't use it.

Coastal Scents has had questionable customer service/public relations in the past, which is why I don't buy from them. However, I feel like a professional makeup artist wouldn't be intimidated by a company like Coastal Scents, especially over a $20 eye shadow palette! Where's your integrity? Besides, if the company is doing shady business like selling cosmetics with a high lead percentage - they'd not only go out of business but likely see jail time. I would imagine any guru who knowingly kept quiet would face some sort of consequence too.

I think it's about time to get in touch with some lab rat colleagues.

Lately, everyone in my country received e-mails with a list of popular make up brands that everyone uses daily saying they contain lead... well, turns out the mail was sent by someone that misunderstood when those companies were talking about lead percentage in their products... I'd better wait for some scientific results about CS palettes...
