how early is too early?

I pretty much agree with the statements above. dress up? fine. no foundation, no mascara, there's no need.

like j remember when I was about five, I found my sisters cover up stick and it looked like lipstick.so I put on my lips and asked her why she had white lipstick.

THAT in my opinion, is a cute story for her to embarrass me with in front of my future husband someday.

what is the appropriate age?
well, it depends on the person I guess but if u think about it it could actually be thought of as school, like stages you know? elementary school
- lips smackers because its simple and playful. middle school- lipgloss and some blush MAYBE some eyeshadow. highschool, start getting more complex, like the math that you don't understand, but study for intensely, trial and error is what learning is. you have to go through your "what the hell was I thinking" phases, don't you agree?

what age did I start wearing makeup?
well, I should say, I was never really allowed to wear makeup. my mom always told me I never needed it and I would get pimples if I did. my sister was always doing her makeup andvi wanted to be just like her. but I actually STARTED when I got into highschool and met my ex.
before that I made a fool of myself in middle school when I put WAY to much eyeliner on one day for the first time, UGH when I asked for honest opinions I hid my face for the rest of the day! it was horrible
in retrospect, honestly when I was a freshman just starting with the makeup the products I used were- in a sense -makeshift and so out there it was rediculous HAHA but I have defiantly come a LONNNG way and people appreciate my talent now. :D

do I believe that the media is influencing our young girls about makeup?
YES. but its getting better. there are a lot of media outlets nowadays that help improve and enhance self confidence, unfortunately, those that don't kind of overpower those that do. its sad, but with good people and good support, any girl can learn to love herself .

WHEW.

I like this thread thanks @ Erin Z. for posting it !

When I look at "Toddlers & Tiaras" those little girls wear so much makeup, weave & use fake tans . They're growing up too fast! But partly because of their mothers.

When I was 11 I started wearing mascaran semi-daily, at 12-13 I started breaking out so I used some concealer and powder. at 13 I started watching a LOT of makeup videos on YouTube and my interest for makeup grew fast, I wanted to try lots of new things, and I've gradually added this to my daily makeup. I'm now 15 and I Never go to school without makeup, but lots of girls my age don't wear any at all.

I wear makeup because I think it's really fun and to learn about it. I also feel waaaay more confident with my skin.

I started wearing make up when I was in 5th grade and I wish I didn't. After then in 6th grade on I could go a day to school without makeup. I have some acne so I didn't like my skin and my eye lashes are blonde so I don't feel right with out it! I wouldn't start my kid till she actually started getting into her fashion and wanting to dress up for school!

It's crazy how young girls are starting relationships, wearing makeup, and dressing inappropriately. I just started wearing makeup & I am 14. I hardly wear any. I just wear Mascara, BB cream and a nude lipstick.

I think 13 is a great age! I sooo agree with darby! When i was 12/13 my mom would not let me wear any makeup so as soon as i got to school i went to the bathroom & applied my makeup then i would take it off before my mom got home. But even then i would only wear a lil mascara eyeliner on the waterline & clear lipgloss that was all & being a mother of a little girl i want to be as close as i can with her i can already tell shes gonna love makeup she loves playing with my makeup & being around me a makeup lover lol whenever she feels she wants to wear makeup i will agree i rather her do it openly than do it behind my back as long as shes not too youngg :)

Well, im 13, and lots of girls my age dont wear heavy make up apart from mascara. Most of my friends and i only do the occasional mascara and the complete crazy makeover at eachothers houses :)

At eleven I would wear clear mascara and lipgloss. At 12 I would wear mascara powder and lipgloss. I am 13 now and wear concealer powder mascara sometimes eyeshadow or eyeliner and a settle lip product.

Also it depends on the skill level of the one applying it. I always do mine natural. I mean you can let someone who Is young wear mascara if they don't do 5 coats too many. You know what I mean.

Right now I am 13 and my mom just started letting me wear makeup last year. Then I was only allowed to wear lipgloss, powder and concealer and late last year, clear mascara. Now I wear light lipstick, gloss, concealer, powder, blackish brown mascara, and I am experimenting with eyeshadow at home. Personally though I wouldnt mind not wearing makeup if so many other girls werent doing it.

It's ok for little girls to wear like lipgloss when they're still pretty young, like 7. My little sisters, 6 and 8, wear lipgloss and when we're just at home they put my makeup on all the time. Wearing it out of the house regularly when you start middle school is a good time to start.

I am 14 and I started wearing makeup in 6th grade (11) and I only wore eyeliner and mascara but I looked like a RACCOON!! It was awful!! In 7th grade I switched schools and toned my makeup way down and wore blush, mascara, a tiny bit if eyeliner and concealer if I needed it. Now I'm in eighth grade and I wear the thinnest line of eyeliner you have ever seen (just to make my lashes look thicker and more full) then I wear very neutral eyeshadow, a bb cream because my face is very very dry and it keeps it and moist, blush and a tinted Chapstick. I still use consealer if I need it. But I usually look very natural unless I go out to a party or dance then I play it up a little but not whoreish. To be honest though the only reason I started wearing makeup was because my mom told me that I was pretty with makeup more than without so... I wearing it. And that's meeee!!

When I was 11 I would only wear lipgloss because I didn't really no how to put makeup on.. But when I turned 12 I got taught more and more about makeup and I found out that it is just like art, so you can be creative, so I basically do loads of designs but I never do something really dramatic for high school. I only wear a tiny bit of concealer, powder, eyeliner, and mascara. But I only do a really dramatic or designed look for something special like a wedding or a party. But I will "experiment" with some looks at home just for fun 😊 I guess I do that because I want to be a makeup artist, or a beautician when I'm older ❤

As of now I am 14 years old and I wear makeup. Not too heavy and very neutral, however, sometimes I like the occasional cat-eye or red lipstick. I always ask my mom how it looks and if it looks promiscuous or not. Girls my age cover their faces with concealer and powders and masks. They never let their true beauty show!

Honestly, if a girl my age or younger wants to begin wearing makeup, let them, but under control of course! Nothing too dark, cakey, etc.

I started wearing makeup during the summer between 5th and 6th grade, so I was 12. I was only allowed to wear tinted moisturizer, mascara, and lip gloss. Now that I'm 13, I wear foundation, concealer, powder, lip gloss, blush, eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow. Even though I wear a lot of makeup products, I don't wear a lot of each, so it's put on lightly. I think girls can start to wear light makeup at the age of 12/13, but only if they wear it right and reasonably.

Personally I started wearing makeup when I entered eight grade but it was just a mascara, sheer eyeshadow, and lipgloss. Once I reached Sophomore year in high school, I wear it all. I don't think it matters when you can start wearing makeup as long as it's for the right reasons. I wear makeup because I love it and it's like art and self-expression for me. If your doing it at a young age to attract attention or impress others, it's wrong.

Well, I started experimenting with makeup in 5th grade, dark eyeshadow and all that stuff. On 6th and untill July of 7th grade I wore a lot of face makeup, because of my acne. Now, at the end of 7th grade I wear no makeup whatsoever, I realised it's not essencial and it was doing no good to my skin. So I think high school is the perfect age to start, coming from a teen (13 years old) POV.

My mom let me practice the summer before 5th grade and let me start wearing it to school in 5th grade I am in 7th now and I have my own youtube channel where me and my 10 year old cousin do makeup tutorials. In my opinion kids should b able to experience what its like to do their own makeup and then I they succed let them keep doing it but if they are not that good yet, let them practice some more. I personally think my mom did a good job teaching me what everything is and what it is for even now I am not allowed to wear some stuff to school such as liquid foundation but I am earning her trust little by little everyday and soon I will probably b allowed to wear it to school... So ya thats my opinion.

I feel like a lot of the older women always ask this question (and I don't mean old, just adults). The younger girls like myself (12) don't really get to explain. So I am a typical 12 year old and I'm going to brag here I get amazing grades in school and I'm very mature for my age honestly. My parents have always let me do my own thing with makeup and clothing. But I do not mean they let me leave the house looking like trash I have a very classy sense if style so usually they let me take control of that. Now for the makeup when I first started out I wore just lipgloss and eyeshadow and I mean like really light colors. Now I am a lot more adventurous! Let me explain to you that my very artistic looks as my dad says do not leave the house haha!! Honestly I can understand that. I do infant think that in my case I am a lot more skilled at makeup than your average 12 year old though. I watch youtube videos like crazy and practice all the time and honestly I think that helps a heck of a lot! I don't however think that I'm saying a 9 year old should be walking around wearing a hot red lipstick (like I saw the other day infact!) Honestly with this situation I feel like a lot of different people have different opinions and that's ok! I guess I will get to feel the other side of the argument when I have a child myself but for now I'm pretty set in my ways and I like my opinion on the situation.
