Hello Beauties!
I just wanted to see if any of you have any advice for me. I have super oily hair! I used to play with my hair a lot (pick at the ends and stuff) but even when I don't do that it gets so greasy! I have to wash it everyday, and I know it's bad for your hair. I tried leaving it and washing it every other day or every 3 days but it looks awful! I use dry shampoo every now and then, but I like my hair to feel clean.
Do any of you know what I can do to stop it getting oily so fast? (I could wash it in the morning, and by midnight that night it will be greasy. I have dry skin on my face and body so it's really confusing! :S

I do not have oily hair/scalp; however, when I'm wearing my hair straight I wash it once a week so I will get an oily buildup on my scalp and my hair closest to my scalp. There are some weeks where I'm so busy that it may be day 8 or 9 before I get to shampoo my hair. So to refresh I use a dry shampoo spray. I have used a few different ones and am not partial to any one in particular. And in a pinch I've used baby powder with cornstarch.
Maybe that will help keep you from having to shampoo so often.

Hey Amymay,
Have you tried an anti-residue shampoo? I use Neutrogena's anti-residue shampoo, you can find it at any drugstore or Ulta.
If you think about it, we are adding things to our hair all the time. We put products, hairspray, heat protectants. We are just coating our hair with different things. We THINK that when we wash our hair we are removing these products, but we aren't. Regular shampoo and conditioner is in fact just adding to these products. Yes shampoo cleans our hair, but it does NOT get everything off. Conditioner just adds more buildup. If your hair is oily already, this buildup is not going to play in your favor. You need to remove it, get EVERYTHING that has been building up out of your hair.
This is what anti-residue shampoos do for your hair. They don't have anything in them that adds to the buildup, they get rid of all the buildup from our hair products. They strip everything out of your hair, I know this sounds harsh, but it's not. I LOVE washing my hair with this shampoo! They don't smell good, they aren't appealing, because they don't have the extra ingredients for smell and color that our every day shampoos do.
I use my anti-residue shampoo once a week, but if your hair is THAT oily, you could use it more. I would suggest using it once a week and then see how many days you can go without shampooing. I usually shampoo my hair one day, then straighten my hair, the next day I curl it, and the next day I either wash it again or put it up. :)
This should help with the oily problem. I hope! :)

I haven't used shampoo since september 2007 and my hair has never been better! I don't know if you're familiar with the no poo method (which means you don't use products that contains any mineral oils, silicons or SLS (sulfates)). It works great for me and my hair seems to grow like weeds!

Alex S - What do you use to wash your hair then?

Erica H- I use a conditioner to clean my hair with. Might sound a bit weird but it works like magic. I also use the Tangle Teezer together with this "cleansing conditioner" and there's no need to brush the hair when it's dry. I got curly hair but I now people with straight hair who uses the no poo method with great results! I use this one http://www.curlharmony.co.uk/store/p3-cleanse/cleansing-conditioner.cfm and it might seem expensive but I have had mine for almost 9 months so it's worth every penny ;)

Stop washing it every day. Seriously.
Because you're doing that, and because washing strips away the oils your hair produces naturally, it has to overproduce oil to compensate. I have oily hair, too. I wash it only 2-3 times a week.

I try! I just can't cope going out with greasy hair! At the moment I'm still washing it everyday. I think I am going to try the lush shampoo! :)

Hair One from Sally's works as a great cleansing conditioner. It's Sally's version of WEN.

Stop washing your hair every day. You have to train your hair to be washed less often. First skip a day, so wash every other day. Gradually you will be able to build up.. maybe even push the 3 day mark. However, I just stick to strictly washing every other day, unless I do a particular hair style in which I use hair gel or a lot of hair spray or something. You can use dry shampoo in between to freshen up your hair.
