Hi gorgeous Beauties! I'm absolutely loving all the beauty chatter happening in our forums—keep up the amazing work!
Here's my question to you: what's your beauty love story and how did you develop into the makeup-savvy creatures you are today?

Back home in Nigeria where I grew up. My mother traveled to London quite frequently to visit family and work. She would return with lots and lots of makeup, mostly MAC, Vogue and a lot of other magazines with high fashion makeup looks that I just stared at everyday and wondered how beautifully the models face was transformed. I remember seeing Yves Saint Laurent and I had absolutely no idea how to say it. Of all my sisters (2 of them) I was the only one interested in the makeup my mother bought and we shared it. Sometimes she let me put makeup on her, she always told me never to let makeup hide my natural beauty. Been hooked since the age of 15

I started being introduced to make-up as a kid who
1. painted and drew on everything (walls included) and
2. was on a synchronized swimming team.
My love for art and waterproof make-up started early, and needless to say, I'm still hooked! I developed my skills as a painter and it coincided with my love of "painting" on my face...it just made perfect sense! We were meant for each other!

My cousin used to be obsessed with YouTube and would practically force me to watch Shane Dawson videos. One day while I was on there I stumbled across an xsparkage video. At first I was weirded out that people actually put makeup on in front of a camera and posted it onto YouTube but I got hooked to her videos because I had never seen someone doing that bold of looks with eyeshadow. I started discovering more and more gurus and of course learned more and more about makeup and hair. Before I discovered the beauty community on YouTube I had 1 pencil eyeliner, 1 mascara, 1 blush, and 1 neutral eyeshadow pallet. I thought drug store makeup was the only kind of makeup out there! I had never heard of MAC, Sephora, or Ulta before!
So basically, the YouTube beauty community got me interested in makeup and hair! :)

I think the beginning for me goes back to when I was a kid. I was always getting into my mom's things and whenever I'd go to my Aunt Maria's (RIP) house, she'd let me play with her makeup stash.
I'll never forget when I was in 1st grade, I brought in a hot pink lip gloss and put some on after recess. My teacher took one look at me and sent me to the bathroom to take it off. HA!!
My love for makeup just continued....and here I am now as an adult and still love it as much as I did when I was little.
Although I was always pretty knowledgeable about makeup, I think Youtube really opened my eyes to so much more and I am so grateful for that.

Honestly, I started wearing makeup at a young age because of self hatred. I wanted to change everything about myself, hated myself, etc. I would cover my face is heavy foundations I would find in the drugstore & had NO idea what I was doing. I just wanted to cover everything.
At around the age of 16, I finally started gaining self confidence & realized that instead of hiding everything abut myself, I would enhance the things that I DO love about my face. I also discovered XSparkage & other gurus around this time & discovered how beauty is more than just blonde hair & blue eyes.
After that, Makeup became more of a fun hobby instead of it being a chore - I started experimenting & loving everything about make up, Now it's a huge passion - I collect & love every second about it.
I'm now 19, have a lot of self confidence & have now found love & fun in something I would rely on for cover. It's now something that makes me happy. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

I started wearing makeup in 7th grade. But all I basically wore was Mascara, black eyeliner, and some neutrogena powder (which did not match my skin color at all!) But somewhere around December of 2010 I got some bareEssentials makeup and I really liked the idea of it all and started exploring around their website and reviews of things. And I looked on youtube and I stumbled across and review from MakeupbyTiffanyD. I remember spending a whole bad weather week looking and watching a lot of her videos. It really got me interested in makeup. I ventured out from her to other people. Now, I love to collect and put on makeup, not to mask my beauty (I mean come on, I'm gonna be a freshmen, I don't need to cover up anything besides acne), but to highlight things. I might have become slightly obsessed but oh well. I'm happy and hopefully I will continue liking makeup for the rest of my life. Well...maybe not when I'm 80 or something.
So when you get down to all the technicalities, bareEssentials started my makeup craze. :)

Thanks for initiating this Victoria. I was actually a tomb boy growing and was into sports. So beauty, makeup, etc was not on my radar until one day my mom threatened to send me away to charm school. Of course I had no idea what that was so I decided to try and "act like a lady." I began watching my mom do her makeup and hair in the morning as she got ready for work. To see her transform right before my eyes was amazing. As I got older she slowly allowed me to experiment with lip color and eyeshadow. I was hooked and never looked back!

I first fell in love with make up when I was 3. I used to watch my aunt apply it when she'd go on her many, many nights out. She was younger than my mum, she had all the hip clothes, shoes and make up (as hip as it was in the early 90's that is)
When she left I'd sneak into her room and put all her make up on, I'd try on her shoes as well.
I started wearing make up at 12 years old, not much, just some eyeliner and eyeshadow on the weekends. I began to do my friend's make up for them. I got more creative and experimental....
I guess make up is just natural to me, like breathing. I can't imagine it not being part of my life. It's my dream. And I came across a great quote : "Look for the dream that keeps coming back. It is your destiny."
