Are there any freelance makeup artists here? I know there are! What are you guys charging brides and bridal parties for your makeup applications? What do you guys charge for trial runs? Are you guys doing hair and makeup or just makeup? What's a good price for hair and makeup? I appreciate all your comments and suggestions! Thanks!

i charge $50 for a trial, and about $100-115 for bridals. bridesmaids i charge $75-85. pricing changes if they want their hair done as well, but i usually try not to do both.
you always want to have atleast a $20-25 gap fee between the bride and bridesmaids.

My bridal package is $185, but that includes the pre wedding trial ($60), airbrush makeup, and false lashes. Bridal party is $75 for full face with airbrush, $50 for full face with traditional makeup, $40 for just airbrush foundation, and $35 for eyes only. I don't do hair (unfortunately). This seems to be the prices of most mua's in phoenix, but I know a few that are more than me.

I guess it would have to be a couple of different things:
-Experience (how experienced/or do you want to gain more experience by going into a new venture)
-Travel (how far you will have to go to see them)
-Competitive (what are other charging with the same set of experience and skills)
Hope that helps :)

You guys gave so much great information! Thank you so much! I'm so glad I posted this. I have another question. Why do you charge less for the trial when you are doing the exact same amount of work as you would be the day of?
Jul 12, 2011
Megan N.
A trial allows the bride to see what her makeup could look like, and it's also the time to let the artist know what she likes and not like about her makeup or hair. She can also let an artist know at that time whether that artist is right for her wedding. It's less because of the fact that you might not always be guaranteed to do the actual wedding. Some brides might find certain artist to fit their wedding better than others. When the wedding day comes, that's when you perfect the look the bride decides to choose. I hope this kinda helps

Megan, it helps tremendously! I appreciate all of your advice! <3

Pam, because the trial is more about the artist selling herself to the client. That's the artist's time to show the client that she should move forward with booking her for the actual wedding date, does that make sense?

@smashley, time to double your prices :)
regardless of what i charge, i always get tipped nice. typically they tip 15-20% , so if you charge more, your tip becomes more, hehe

I charge 100 for a bride, which includes trial run, false lashes and makeup that will last all day, bridesmaids I charge 65 individually but if there are 5+ then I do a package of 5 bridesmaids for 250.
