Hey yall, my name's Kellyn Derrick and I'm new to beautylish. I've been checking out the website and it seems great! I know I'm a lot younger than most of the ladies here, but I would LOVE it if someone would show me something cute and fun for my first day of school! I'm going into the 8th grade and I want to impress my bf. :) I have barely any makeup, hair, and nail supplies, and pretty much no skills in beauty! So if any of yall have any ideas for me, I would LOVE it! Thanks so much. :)

well, you are young and by that you need barely any makeup, something springy maybe just a wash of lavander and that should make the trick, but ofcourse, personal preferences are important too...
tell me what do you have, and what do you like?

thanks so much for replying! this is all that i have, pretty basic according to my friends...
in case you can't tell, all i have is brown eyeliner, several shades of mostly brown eyeshadow, some mascara, one brush and LOADS of lipblam and gloss, but i just put in my two favs. the thing is, idk how to use any of this stuff, it has me totally stressed out :(

Wow... I wasn't even allowed to wear makeup in 8th grade... [school rules, not parents]. As for what I think would be good, I'd have to say just some eyeliner, mascara, and a wash of a lighter brown on your lids should work. Oh, and lipbalm. But really, you don't need much makeup... or to try and impress any boyfriends with it... ;P

Since your young you could do just a light color on your lid, like Antonio said, but then do a thin line of brown liner very close to your lashine. You can practice a couple of times before bed to see how you like to do it. I like to do thin towards the inner corner then thicken it as i move to the outer part of my lashline.
It also looks like you have a brown shadow, so you can take that with a qtip or w.e you have and apply it to the lower lash line to give it a smokey effect. Finish with a coat of mascare to make your eyes really pop (:

should i put eyeliner under my eye too? or would that be too much?

I think you can maybe wear a super cute gloss maybe a clear with some sparkle to it or a light pink. Then you can put some light mascara on to bring out your eyes. That will always give you a fresh look. I hope that helped. I remember when I was entering the 8th grade! Super exciting!

what I would sayis "Wear the lightes brown" some mascara and ur lip blam, should work :))
You are young and I think simple stuff looks better adn younger girls don't need too much...
Now for the water line i am not sure, but it depends on what u like <3 hope it helps :)
oh yeah and if you don't have brushes use ur fingers, up for the fingers ha ha ha
they work very well too, better than the little sponges that come with the eye shadows.

If I were you I would stay as far away from eyeliner as possible! I look back on when I was in jr high and cringe at my eyeliner.

I wouldn't say "stay as far away from eyeliner as possible" as much as "Do NOT go overboard with the eyeliner" as eyeliner was nearly all I wore in 8th grade [when I didn't have school]... but only on the waterline!

@ antonio-like your name btw, lol, thanks a bunch! a lot of people have told me they like to use they're fingers to apply their makeup! but is it bad to apply foundation with your fingers?
@ gabbi-yes, i'm kinda young for makeup, most of my friends don't even wear it, but i thought i would try it out! my friend mia is great with it and learning a few things will give me something to do at our next sleepover :) thanks for the advice!
@ leah-VERY helpful, thanks! and i like ur pic, very pretty!
@ erica-yes, my sister tell me all the time. she won't allow me to wear black eyeliner, she thinks i'm gonna turn into avril lavigne!
@ monica-yay! someone like me! haha :) i have a buddy named monica and her last name starts with m too :) thanks for the advice! i'll follow you :)

truth is, is not bad to use ur fingers, though I would recomend you use a damp sponge better, make your foundation flawless and looking better...
ofcourse my skin is different than your and I gotta say, what works for me might not work for you, but try your finger it could help too.
If you want a better and nicer look though use a damp sponge.
Hope that helps too <3
oh btw thanks, Luv my name too and urs too <3 first time I hear it

oh kindda forget to tell you, what is you eye color?
that will help a lot, when you try to make ur eyes stand out.
and to tell you the eye shadows instead of only brown.

I see what you've got there is perfect! Take that Wet'N'Wild eyeshadow palette. Use that middle color and take your ring finger and rub some color on your finger and lightly onto your eyelid. You just want a light wash of color, nothing too drastic. Also, don't go too far up your crease, keep it all under there. (Your crease is where you touch your lid and feel bone, between your eyelid and your eyebrow. The hollow of your eye.) Take that mascara and put a coat or two on your top lashes. Try to get the brush to the roots of your lashes so it will look like you have liner on when you really don't. Put a lip balm or gloss on and you're finished.

You don't want to apply tons of makeup or any at all at such a young age. And you especially don't want to change yourself for any boys. Embrace your youth while you can! lol.

so here are some colors that will make ur eyes stand out, but keep in mind is gonna be for school so only a slight amount or wash of color will do it <3
green eyes- Coppery colors, Plum, some Pinks, and some dark greens in small amounts( you don't want your make up to compete with ur eyes).
Hope its helpful <3

I always forget things right, if you want your eyes to look smallers go for a dark brown or balck( when you are not in school).
But dark brown in the waterline or in the lash line will help.

Hey Kellyn, 8th grade huh?? Wow! I remember stuff like makeup being a big deal when I was in 8th grade (16 years ago!)... I'm sure the last thing you want to hear is that you're too young for makeup- I know I didn't want anyone to tell me ANYTHING when I was 13, but just remember- what you put out there for other people to see (like how much makeup you're wearing) is going to send a message. SO, I think the better question is, what kind of message do you want to send?

Not to pass judgement on you (but I think you can handle the truth so here goes)... When I see ladies your age wearing a lot of makeup it makes me think 1. they're not comfortable in their own skin 2. they're trying to look older than they really are or 3. they want to impress someone REAL BAD and look SUUPER COOL

But the weird thing is... the coolest kids around are the ones that figure out 1. they don't need to hide under a mask of makeup because they know the racoon eyes aren't fooling anyone into thinking they're awesome 2. there's a whole lifetime of BEING older.. no need to rush there now (trust me, it's less fun being old when your 30th birthday is looming nearby) and 3. and finally, skanky looking girls *that wear too much makeup* usually end up working retail and living with mommy and daddy well into their 30's. Do you really want that for yourself?!?!? No, of course you don't. And while it might seem crazy that makeup relates to all this, trust me when I say it does!

Just some things to think about, girlie...Makeup can be fun but think really hard about what you want to say to the world with your beautiful face! I bet you realllllllly don't need it!

and angela, i get what your saying. i try to be cautious with stuff like that. i honestly don't want to be one everyone calls slutty. my mom said about the same thing about trying to look older, and she tells me that i'm gonna try to look younger for most of my life, so i might as well enjoy not have to try while i can! lol :) its just that most of the girls at my school DO wear a lot of makeup, and i don't want to be the only one who doesn't! i want it to look natural, and everyone with advice so far is stressing about not wearing too much. but thanks for your input! i agree.

I totally get it. Getting picked on or feeling like you don't fit in sucks. Period. You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders and understand that there's a point where you can take it too far and give people (the people that matter- like your teachers and parents) the wrong idea about what you stand for as a person. And educating yourself on the right way to use these products to enhance- not hide- your features is very responsible. You should ask your mom to help you, I bet she'd be impressed with your maturity towards all this (not to mention feel awesome that you want to include her...)!

The Wet'n'Wild palette is the three rectangular shaped ones in the black casing on your bed. The color in the middle.

Or you can use the middle color in the CoverGirl palette, which is the three colors in the blue casing.

:)

You've got gorgeous eyes and brows so you don't need a lot of makeup. My advice (like many others have suggested) is just swipe on some mascara and smudge a little eyeliner on the outer corners of your eyes. You could use a Q-tip or you finger for smudging. And then just use a little gloss and a TINY bit of blush just to give you a healthy glow. Unless you already have that glow- its been a while since I've had a 13 year old complexion! But I can't stress enough that if you do decide to put a little color on your cheeks-take it easy! Too much blush is a one-way ticket to looking skanky and really inexperienced with makeup. I cringe when I look back on my makeup in middle school. White eyeliner, badly done eyeshadow, and scary lip liner-yikes! Gook luck and hope you have fun in 8th grade!

Yeah I think we all have the same idea, at your age is better to keep makeup simple and easy, non slutty ha ha ha...
always be who you are, never change and don't try to imitate people.
We are who we are, other people just have to deal with it, and besides being ourselves is what makes this world be great, crazy but great =)
