Why do all the people who work at Sephora follow people? Maybe it's only my location but everytime I go into a Sephora they follow me, like they think I am going to steal something. And its even worse if I don't wear a lot of makeup. Why do you guys think that is?

Giving the benefit of the doubt, I'd say that they want to be there in case you have any questions. This doesn't happen to me at the Sephora's in my area, but I had it happen at the Lenox Square Sephora in Atlanta. They were close by in case my friend and I had questions, but not that creepy "if you steal ANYTHING, you'll be sorry" type of following. It may be annoying, but I rather one follow me; at least I know I can turn around and ask them something, rather than having to basically flag an employee down for some assistance.

...I seem to have the opposite happen... every time I need to ask something, there isn't an employee anywhere near me and they are all busy.

I really, really, really hate being followed in a store. I used to work there and I just could not go around following people like the rest of them. lol No one likes to be overwhelmed or someone hovering over their every move while their in a store.
But yes sometimes they follow you if they think you might steal.

I know the feeling, if they ask you if you need help and you say no and they still follow you and it happens every time you go in go and speak to the manager and tell them it makes you uncomfortable to be in the store and makes you not want to come back. I guarantee the problem will be solved. Stores never like when there may be a lost sale.

I work at Sephora, and I can't speak for every location, but we are PUSHED like crazy to greet greet greet everybody. We have an online survey for clients to take and it's a really big focus for the company. So they want to make sure that everybody was greeted and helped, and they would rather it be greeted 10 times than not greeted at all. I know it is probably annoying, I feel like such a stalker sometimes when I greet someone and I know everyone else has probably already done it lol. But if you have had a bad experience take the survey and let them know because I can guarantee that they will take it into consideration, they literally read every single survey

Everytime I go into Sephora not one greets me or asks if I need any help. Guess it's cause I'm 18 and I don't look like I'll buy anything.

This just happened to me the other day and it has never happened to me before. I even remember thinking, "Geez, do I look like the kind of person who would steal?!" It was really annoying, but I know how it is working in retail and having the company breathe down your neck about greeting people and being up their butts. I used to work for Claire's and they are the WORST.

Being a teenager, I get this everywhere. I always go into Sephora to swatch around and look at stuff and everyone follows me and asks me if I need help ten thousand times like they're suspicious and yeah. Annoying.

I think its funny how a variety of different service you get at different sephora locations....my one at school is variable sometimes i get greeted and asked if i need help and sometimes im in there for a half hour and never have boo said to me.... my one at home i've gone in 5 times and never had anyone say a darn thing to me...not hi, do you need help, nothing...but my sephora in jcpenney has the BEST girls ever!!! I've decided to boycott my full size sephora and stick to my jcpenney sephora..i know the quantity isn't the same but I don't care I'd rather have people say something to me and me say I'm just looking than not have anyone say anything to me.

I have the opposite problem. I went to sephora a few weeks ago, and wanted to try out and buy the Temptu Airpod, I asked for help and they told me to wait and they would get someone who knew how to use it, I stood there for no lie 30 minutes while countless employees walked around helping other people. I didn't end up buying it because the service was so horrible. I would rather have people interested in me then not care that I am there to drop some cash.

Exactly what @ Mandy K said!! They know me at my local Sephora that when I come in, we all talk for a while and they let me be. I almost dont need help, but when I do, theres always someone available

Sephora can definitely be annoying but not too bad, Anyone else feel awkward when you go into a MAC store?
Jul 8, 2011
Drea L.
^@Kayla, YES - MAC has ALWAYS been awkward for me. I just get in & get out! lol
I go to the Sephora in Hollywood where you would EXPECT people to be rude, but they are SOOO nice there. I've never had any problems... However, the Sephora in Rancho, CA are just like that. They're all so angry for no reason.

I actually had that problem at the Sephora I frequent. I went in with my sister looking for nothing in particular and was followed/stalked by nearly 5 employees. Having worked retail myself I assume they thought I was stealing. I was annoying but I'm sure they were just doing their job.

i get either end of the spectrum-either followed too closely [they're bad around the perfumes!] or no one near at all even when i need help. sigh.

This never happens to me. They are always there if you need help. I think they are just being helpful. They are well-represented and very knowledgeable.

I had my first in-store Sephora experience about a month ago. Only a couple of people asked if I wanted help; they generally seemed to leave me alone.

We def don't try to follow people can't speak for all who work at sephora but we are there to help and want people to know they can come to us :) that's super annoying tell them to back off haha not all sephoras are like that

Well since all of you are americans I feel kind of a outsider haha.. I work at Sephora in Holland (not for long anymore since sephora is leaving Holland :-() but I do understand how you girls feel. also in the dutch sephora's we are told to follow anyone who looks suspicious, but most of the times we are just greeting you and ask if we can help to make you feel comfortable and at home :-)
