I want to DIY ombré my hair, I think? But should I get it professionally done? If so how much do they normally charge at a nice place?

Use Fudge paintbox.
it's a semi-perminent so you'll probably have to redye it every fortnight, but it gives amazingly vibrant colours.

Loreal has a kit just for ombré with instructions and everything if you are looking for an inexpensive option. At my salon, a hair cut and ombré color would cost about $250, the loreal one is about $10.

I recommend to get it professionally done, box colors just ruin your hair with metallic salts and will cost you more if you have to go get it fixed. Call around or better yet, stop in some of your local salons and have a consultation with a stylisy about what you'd like for your ombre and bring pictures! At my salon we charge it like a full foil and with a haircut that runs about $110.

Yea go to a professional and save yourself any trouble. My hairdresser said those box ombré colors are a joke.

I used the Ombre hair kit from l'oreal! My friend had it done 'professionaly' and it turned out green.. The l'oreal kit isn't dye, it is some sort of bleach! I was really happy with the result.

I know it is not the best picture. My hair is already very light from itself but you can see the colour diffrence between the roots and ends right? Lol! Hoped I helped :)
