If you want less color just dab the lipstick on or blot it with a tissue :D.

You could always try a different colour lipstick/ gloss over the top to down it down like maybe a nude colour.

Apply lip balm generously before you apply the lip colour: this will tone down it down and nourish your lips :) I think it's pretty though.
