My profile says Louis (husband), but my name's Kara. I'm a new mommy and don't know whether to be socially appropriate or to be myself. Being myself means big hair and dark make-up. What Louis used to call "scene". Now that I'm 22 with child, I have to consider what's right for my age and for my daughter. Anyways, I can't decide which direction I want to go in. Natural-ish, wavy brown hair, less eye make-up. Black, straightened, hair, black and brown eye shadow. Or red, which would be somewhat new to me. I have pale-ish skin and want to bring out my blue eyes. Help?

That's the problem. New mommy= new me. I'm all for being myself. And all of my above ideas are me. Just don't know which way to go.

How you look will not change your parenting abilities, people judge no matter what... but if your looking into a bit of a change, less teasing use gray eyeliner for a soft look,

I need to regain my self esteem since the weight left behind by pregnancy. I want to experiment, without going overboard and ruining my already dried out hair. Thanks, of course, to pregnancy.

You have to do what makes you happy! Your little one is going to love you no matter what! Be whoever you want to be! Have fun! Isn't that the point of make up anyway!?! Btw your gorgeous!! ;))

That's a very good point. Aside from the worries of which image to put off, I just don't know which direction to go in! Friends never agree with my style, husband is no help, what so ever. So I'm just stuck. Been trying to decide for 4 months now. And thats why I'm here. Not necessarily asking how to look, but for ideas, suggestions, maybe even experiences. Had too much criticism growing up, so now I'm critical against my own thoughts (when it comes to how I look). Not looking for social acceptance, just what's appropriate. Or if I'm over thinking and that my daughter will never be embarrassed.

Thank you. And I'm not afraid of make-up. It's actually my life saver.

Do not change to please ppl, it does not change how you raise your baby, I'm 20 with an 7 month old and I didnt change one bit, that doesn't mean I'm not a fit mother

I guess the real question to ask is, in your opinion based off of the post, which would look best? Not trying to make it confusing. I'm wanting a new look. Of course, I'm not going to dye my hair blue just because someone says it'll look good. Just looking for ideas.

I like this place :) I'm gaining a confidence I didn't realize I lost. Thanks all! Still don't know which way to go though. Dark or bright. Without even thinking about right and wrong. Which would look best.

Think ill stick with black. It's what I know and am comfortable with. Can always do a copper eye shadow if I want hints of red. Or none to go natural. Still, thanks. It's confidence was lacking.

I think you would really suit a red :)

Me too :) husband disagrees. Dunno which shade to go with. He says bergundy, too purple for my taste. I like red red, not ginger red but deep red.

**sighs** It's not just me then! Day or night makes no difference when it comes to the intensity. I base it on moods. I try to manipulate certain features. Thank you :)

I can't decide out of those options, all three sound good...leaning on red though :-)

I remember going through something like this, is it that you don't want to look like a single 21yr old but a respectable wife and mother?? If thats the case it's just a change in your life!! Do what makes you feel beautiful, but also like you!! I think you are beautiful and if I was to suggest anything I would say a simple pin-up style would look great on you!! Maybe a very natural eye and bold lip. You don't have to cut out black eyeliner for that maybe just a thin natural looking line! Again you are beautiful and should do what makes you happy this was just a suggestion and I hope it helped!!:)

I'll put in my two cents cuz I'm a new mommy too...ill start by saying when I was 22 , even without a baby I was stuck between dressing my age, dressing to young or to old. It's confusing. As a new mommy at 25 now I'm really stressing. When I was a kid 25 was like whoa, grown up. But I don't feel old old lol. N I don't know how to dress becuz I definitely don't want to look old or to young Nd I wanna look like a mom without being frumpy but its hard cuz my body looks weird now!! I'd sau whatever style you want and feel comfortable with keep. Don't worry. My advice would be to stay particle though. Cuz babys leave little time for mamas gettin all dolled up. Lol.

Just be you! However you feel prettiest and most confident, do it! I completely agree with what Karen P. said. You are beautiful, by the way.  :)

Thank you, everyone. You have no idea how helpful this all is. I want to raise her to be unique, not a clone. I've just forgotten that I need to lead by example to accomplish that. My worry was her being made fun of because of me on her first day of school.. I couldn't live with myself if I was the reason for her torment. But you all have made great points and given some good advice. She is only 4 months old, so its not like I don't have time. Since having her, I've had little to no time for self pampering. So I've been feeling I lost my image. But I haven't, it'll just take some work. I've been considering a light black. It's not far off from my natural color. Which is dark brown with red tints. I've been worried that I'm getting too old for a "high school" trend. But I can make it look more respectable and grown up. Just have my dad in the back of my head telling me no. And that I'm raising a daughter to be dark, fat and play video games and that she'll never meet a guy all because of how I look. So I'm sure you can imagine why my post came about. Seriously, really thank you. Especially to mommies with this dilemma.

If you love darker makeup but want to soften it a bit try a brown smoky eye. It will give you the intensity and darkness but really bring out blue eyes and look more natural. But other than that you're 22 do what you feel is right for you!!

I already do browns and copper. With a hint of back. I do have wide eyes and sometimes I wear more eye liner to make them smaller. Like I mentioned before, I manipulate certain features on my face.
