I went to a spa and they gave me Retinol 100 by Young Pharmaceuticals. I've used it twice since Saturday (4/13/13) and I knew I would experience the flakiness but I absolutely CANNOT use my moisturizer. It burns like fire and makes my skin red and swollen for at least 30 minutes. I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 15 (it does say it's hypoallergenic on the back). What's worse? The sample moisturizer the spa gave me burns too (Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 by SkinCeuticals). At first my skin was looking good, but now I'm breaking out again... after just two days of painful moisturizing and dry, flaky skin... and I'm one of those lucky ladies cursed with adult acne. Advice, please?

I would stop putting anything on your skin for at least 2 weeks to bring down the irritation. You can also apply a cool cloth to your face or an ice pack to help sooth it.

I use Retinol for acne too it took my skin about a month to get adjusted to it. Make sure you're applying it 30-40 minutes AFTER washing your face AT NIGHT. And only use a pea sized amount a little goes a very long way and putting to much will only dry out and burn your skin. Less is definitely more. Rinse your face off in cool water in the morning then apply your moisturizer make spf your best friend because your skin will be very very sensitive to sun. Your skin will adjust, I swear by my Retinol its the only thing to completely clear my skin of acne it did take about 3 months but I've been on it almost 2 years. I love it.

I use Yes to Cucumbers and occasionally Yes to Tomatoes. Pretty gentle but fairly drying.

I switched to cetaphil gentle skin. If your face wash is drying in any kind of way switch to a really gentle one.

I have used retinal for 10yrs. Start with only using it 3days a week. Do that for 2 weeks. Then move up to 4days and so on and so forth. It takes awhile for your skin to adjust. But it technically is supposed to do that. It's supposed to shed your skin. Also use a pea size amount
