Go short? (haircut and style)

Okay, so I have very thick and very curly hair. I know that a short cut for my type of hair isn't usually recommended, but my hair is so damaged! I'm sick of the coarse and tangled mess that my locks have become and I've already tried conditioning treatments and home remedy and nothing seems to help.

Point is, what short (or medium/short) cut/style would work for thick, curly hair?

A stacked bob. If you wanted to wash and go, you could. And if you wanted to flat iron it, you could. :)

My friend has hair just like yours, and I cut her hair into a stacked bob and take the back as short as her hairline and the front a little longer with the pieced in front of her ears disconnected and I put in lots of layers to lighten it up!

Thanks. I've had short hair before. Mainly because the hair stylist messed up... but anyway, I haven't in a while and I'm kind of nervous lol.
