I have always wanted to be big on youtube like elle or blair fowler but I don't have the money to buy the expensive products like they do. How do you suggest I get big on Youtube?

Well, good luck because I've been on YT for two years, networked my butt off, and still ain't even close to being big. Networking is key, pretty much. You have to get your channel out there and you also have to be good. It is 2012 and there are so many new beauty people going into YouTube a day, it's just too hard to go from all the way at the bottom to the top now. I'm pretty sure Elle and Blair started before it was really popular to make makeup videos on there so it was just easier years ago. Oh, the hard truth.

No one, except the people who are "Big" on YouTube could probably give you an answer, and even then, it may not really be THE answer. But I would think that you just have to stay focused, if it something you truly love doing I think it could get you somewhere, you just have to believe in your self and make sure you are doing if for the right reasons. Also, be kind to others and be helpful. You could maybe appeal to others who don't buy high end brands, you can appeal to the "average" person. I think people would like a girl that they could relate to, not just aspire to be. And also, you need to network. Get your name out there, but don't be bothersome. Don't let anyone tell you that you are doing it wrong, or not good enough, and always be yourself, it's good to want to be someone, but you have to "be yourself cause everyone else is taken"

Best of wishes, don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something either just because they can't.

Just continue making videos! And remember to make beauty videos because it's something you're passionate about and enjoy, and not just to get 'big'!

Yeah, you really don't need a bunch of high end products. BargainBeautyPrincess or whatever doesn't use all high end products. Everybody and their grandmother that watches Emily knows she doesn't use all high end products. It's not a requirement.

I would say just stay passionate about it and eventually popularity will come. Like Rikki said Elle and Blair did it when beauty videos weren't all that popular. Now it's a very competitive field.

Thanks :)

you don't need expensive products to be big on youtube, all you need is the confidence, passion, and lots of smiles. (:

I truly think it is almost (not entirely!!) impossible to get as big as Elle and Blair.. Except Michelle Phan (or an other big "guru") introduces you to her(/ his) subscribers.. Like Rina said youtube is a very competitive field.. I don't even have 100 subscribers(doing tutorials for a year) but it's ok for me. I have a lot more views than some other people on youtube who have like almost 200 subscribers. And that's what makes me happy: (most of) my subscribers really watch my videos. And that's also a reason why I don't get this "sub for sub" thing going on on YT (I'm not saying that all of them with less views and more subbies did it, but I'm sure there are a lot of people doing it on YT).. This way you get a lot of subscribers who aren't interested in your videos and effort.. Anyways: everyone starts small so be proud of the subbies, comments, views etc you have/ get:) It will eventually get more and more;).
What I think is important: 1. several different kinds of videos 2. not too long videos 3. to be authentic 4. networking and 5. self- confidence

In my opinion, You don't have to buy expensive products to be big on YouTube, use what you can afford. I watch people who use & review drug store products. Nothing wrong with that!

I'm not trying to sound mean in aspect of the other people on youtube. But also don't compare yourself to guru who have at least 2 years and have hundred thousands of subscribers. Most likely they were talked about in another big persons video. Most of the teen gurus on youtube are in there own little click that helps them gain followers from each other. Which sucks cause they are other people out there who have far more experience with the beauty field and don't get much recognition. I have 27 and I been doing it for 3 months. lol Just stay positive (:

Here are a few tips that might help you get started.
1. You need to define your niche. If you do beauty, what style of beauty? What kind of makeup/hair should your viewers expect?
2. Title your video correctly. Keep it simple. Examply: Four Easy Day-to-Night Looks for Summer.
3. Make sure you use the description box AND the tags to your advantage. Don't leave anything blank. Example: Summer makeup, day to night looks, easy makeup, quick makeup looks, etc.
4. Recreate looks from YTers you like and post your video as a response to theirs.
5. If you're feeling brave, collab with another YTer who is on the same level, but has a few hundred more subbies than you. You can do a joint look, swap or challenge.

I am no where near big.. but I can give you advice that I have been given. :)
Okay, make videos regularly, not like once every 3 months which I am guilty of doing but the more videos you make the higher chance more people will see you. :)
Then make videos you don't see very often... like everyone in their mother has filmed a smokey eye tutorial. Just be creative and film something nice and refreshing.
Also, people always like nice lighting, sound, and quality. :)
Oh, and lastly be yourself! Oh, and oneee lasst thing, people are always looking up haul videos! :)
