A lot of full coverage foundations, tend to look a bit cakey or mask like you can see my pores and it looks so unnatural. However when I apply something like loreal true match Lumi it looks great but doesn't give me the coverage I need it to. My newest foundation that I love is the
Kat Von D lock it but it looks so heavy on me. I don't have a beauty blender I can't afford any make up. I'm on a strict no buy so I can't buy one. I love using my round top kabuki normally but it's not working with my Kat Von d or SFF. But it worked with my revlon color stay whipped. What could I do? My skin is very dry and I have break outs I need to cover now.

I have dry skin as well and the best thing I've found this far is Africa's Best Herbal Oil. It can be used on hair and skin. I put the tiniest amount on my face and it just soaks in, the ingredients are amazing bc it's several oils in one. Just let it sit for 5 minutes really let it soak in, then splash your face with cold water and then apply your foundation

Also never wash your face with warm water. Definitely not hot water. It dries out your skin and creates uneven texture

I have VERY dry skin as well. When I get out the shower or after washing my face, my skin feels so tight and starts to look flakey. When I do decide to wear a thicker foundation, these are the steps I take so that my foundation doesn't look caked on. 1st I apply my moisturizer then apply primer. The primer I use is make up for ever hd primer bc it's extreamly moisturizing. I notice you said you don't want to spend anymore money so what you can do is mix a drop of moisturizer with your primer. Then I spot conceal. I use a full coverage waterproof concealer on my blemishes and scars. I let the concealer sit on my face for about 1 min and then I go in with foundation. I do use a beautyblender but another alternative you can use are your fingers. The warmth of your fingers will breakdown the foundation onto your skin and really give a natural finish. After that I use a setting spray instead of powder. This method works really well for me so if you try this let me know how it works out for you! Oh and drinks lots of water!

I also suffer from incredibly dry skin. I make a point to gently but thoroughly exfoliate my face at least 3 times a week, followed by immediate application of a light facial oil out of the shower. I give it a few moments to sink in, then I apply moisturizer. I don't actually use primer most of the time as I don't really need it and don't care for the finish most of them give my skin.
A key thing to remember when it comes to foundation application is that using brushes like a flat-top kabuki, stippling, or really just any brush besides a flat paddle brush is that it can cause micro-exfoliation, exacerbating dry patches. You can augment this by ensuring that your skin is very, very well moisturized to begin with and/or adding additional moisture to your foundation (I mix a few drops of Tarte Maracuja oil into my Kat Von D foundation). You can also spritz your brush with water to cut down on the flakiness.
