So I'm an 18 year old business major. I would like to own my own makeup/ cosmetic service. I actually want to start doing others makeup and showing my love and passion for makeup to others. I already have a business plan but now it's time to take action. Tomorrow I have a job interview with Sephora , that's step 1, but I was just thinking about finding anther person who shows the same passion for makeup as I do. Sort of a business partner. What is your thoughts on a business partner when starting your own business.

Thats good you a plan! I'm I don't know know much on buisness cuz I'm 17 but make sure they are someone you can trust cause some ppl get greedy with the $$ when your buisness takes off :/

Sephora is a great step, if you stay there long enough you meet a lot of great people and get to know a lot of brands that can help you in the future. But I agree it should be someone with a good background that you trust, and they should have the same goals as you for he business but you guys should have different attributes that compliment each other

I think that you have to know a person's character intimately before going in to business with them. Don't want them to dip out with your money or leave you hanging once you get started. Buttttt, if you can trust someone then I think a partner is a good idea.

I'm on a similar path (business degree --> makeup career). I suggest waiting to start your own company until you graduate, because trying to do both at the same time means one will suffer (either academics or the business). My fiance and I own a small production company and because we are both full time students and have other jobs (have to pay rent), our company just hasn't gone anywhere. We are actually going to shelve our current projects until we graduate and can devote enough time to doing quality work.

As for business partners: make sure it is someone you trust, that also has business skills! Just because you trust your best friend the most, doesn't mean she'll have any idea how to help you run a successful business. Network with other professionals (your school is a great place to do this). Your partner doesn't necessarily have to be someone interested in makeup, but someone who can manage the financials, promotional material, etc.
