Use color oops. From Walmart for 5. I dyed my hair for the first time on the ends, and I HATED IT so my cousin told me to get it for $5. And it seriously worked so well.

I don't really want the color out, I just want it a lighter shade. will washing it with a clarifying shampoo do that?

I dyed my hair red, and it turned out wayyyy dark. If you just wash your hair like normal (hot water, non color protectant shampoo) it'll fade up. After its as light as you want it, start using cool water and a color protectant shampoo to keep that color :) that's what I did.
