Yes you can use olive oil. try a baby shampoo.

I wash mine in antibacterial soap (like Dial) with warm water.

That would work! Personally I swirl them in a cup of 99% alcohol once a week. It doesn't dry out the hair and it dries faster. As long as you use some method to wash, you're good!

I use baby shampoo on my natural brushes and then dial on my synthetic ones. make sure you dry them with the bristles pointing down if possible or lay them flat on a towel in the sun. if your leave them to dry bristles up the moisture will pool at the base of the brush and they are more likely to rot out or grow bacteria.
