I've used makeup sponges on my nails several times but when I do, chunks of the sponge come off on to my nail. Is there a way to avoid this? Besides spending $39.99 on the magic sponge?

You can't avoid this because the acetone breaks down the make-up sponge. It can't hold up while it's being broken down by the harsh chemicals, especially while you're also rubbing it on your nails to remove the polish. My advice is to just stick to cotton balls.

To avoid chucks and get the most out of the sponge is to rip it into tiny pieces and use a tweezer to hold it. You get more surface area, but less use time for each chuck that way you don't get chucks.
