I personally like the Play Hooky messenger bag jumpfrompaper.us. It's expandable so size should not be a problem. It's a bit pricey though well worth it for its cute 2D look [yes the photo is a real life photo of it]. You can buy it off of their site I gave above in their "original collection" section.

Claire's and Rue 21! Rue 21 has a huge selection and normally most are on sale for around $7-$10 :)

Claire's and Icings have cute styles for good prices. I've seen some at Kohls that were cute and in a variety of colors. If you're comfortable with it, thrift shops are good places to look for crossbody bags.
