Okay so I use a salicylic acid face wash. That gives me no problem.
But then one night I used a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment and my face broke out in itchy spots.
Am I allergic to benzoyl peroxide? Or was it the combo of washing my face with a salicylic acid face cleanser before the benzoyl peroxide spot treatment??
Thank you!

That's normal. If you've never used it before. The first time I used it and my skin did that. But it doesn't anymore. Just give it some time. Was it a high percent of benzoyl peroxide?

I used to use it and it was fine. I developed an allergy to it though, my skin gets very irritated almost like a sunburn.

My mom is. Bit she's not allergic to salicylic acid. You probably are.

I'm allergic to benzoyl peroxide and as every allergy manifests differently you might want to talk to your doctor. Your reaction seemed fairly normal for benzoyl peroxide.

My facial skin reacts nasty to it as well but when I used it as a spot treatment on my back from when I was hardcore in the gym my skin in that area did fine. But on the face...inflamed skin.

With benzoyl peroxide with my experience of it, your meant to apply a very thin layer. It burns my skin too but I have to apply it sometimes when my skin breaks out because it's the only thing which manages to control it. I use the teeny tiniest amount. Which means it doesn't really burn or itch as much.

I once used a really high % percent of benzoyl peroxide and the same thing happened, try switching to a lower percentage

Just to be on the safe side I would just stop using it because a lot of ppl have allergies to it that's why most acne products have salicylic acid in it instead. Try clean n clears salicylic acid spot treatment it's 2% which is the highest you can get without a license and it's only like $5 at Walmart it's my go to one whenever I'm out of my 20% and can't get more for awhile.

I agree with Traci. I'm no dermatologist but I don't believe in that whole "make your skin worse so it will be clear later" method. your body creates these types of reactions because something is wrong and shouldn't be used on your body.

It's normal. It'll itch but works.

I have been using benzol peroxide for years, the trick is to mosturize your face with non-oil based/ water based cream or lotion after you wash your face. wait for 5 mins and then apply benzol peroxide. this is how you restore natural oil in your skin so you body doesn't have to produce oil to balance dry skin from harsh face washes and creams.

I still use 2.5% and as a teenager I used to use 5%
