Over the summer the girl who has been cutting my hair for about ten years moved away which didn't phase me much as I was so busy with work and outside so much my hair was left in up most of the time so it didn't matter but then it got to the point my ends were fried bangs are impossible to see through you get the gist so I tried a new place that I had heard good things about lets just say for me I was not pleased and as have been trying to
Grow out a very short cut this makes me want to shy away from the salon altogether

Yelp. Actually a friend told me the two best places in town. I tried two other places. Then picked one of the two best (after reading their yelp reviews) and have stayed with that salon since then.

I don't know if your local news station does it, but usually at the end the list the places and people - at the bottom left corner ( you can probably check their website out, too. ) that do their hair and make up. I find those usually to be the best stylists out there and some even charge as much as any regular stylist so it's definitely quality.

I am super picky and I have a very hard time trusting professionals with my hair-way too many horror stories and tears in the past. When I'm looking for a new stylist, I get consultations with a few different stylists before I do anything too drastic (big cut or color change). I can usually tell from consultations who I really click with, who gets my vision &is really excited about it, and their overall attitude. I have decided against a lot of stylists-even salon owners and very experienced master stylists, because they did not seem confident in what I was trying to achieve or eager to try it. Some stylists, I have chosen may not have been very experienced in doing hair for a really long time, but when they understand what I want when I tell them, and when they ask questions and tell me about their ideas to improve mine-I get really excited and go with those enthusiastic people. I really have to see their personality and be able to trust them before I can make the switch to a new hair stylist. Its kind of an annoying process-but so is fixing mistakes stylists have made in the past lol. To find the stylists I want to try out or have a consultation with, I go by word of mouth or online portfolios since it seems like every business out there has a facebook nowadays.

Then call and make an appt for a consultation only. If it's a high end salon they shouldn't bat an eye.
