Styling Thick Hair

Which styles fit thick hair? my hair reaches my shoulders, its straight-wavy and its super thick. if I want to tie it up, I can only use one of the giant ponytail holders and it looks awful...I can't use a clip because it can't hold my hair.
I don't use creams or sprays on my hair and I would never do. suggestions?

I use CHI Silk Infusion for frizz, and use a really good shampoo and conditioner, I love the Organix brand at drugstores. Also, maybe go get it thinned. That always helps mine.

I have VERY thick hair which is kinky curly and past my shoulders by a few inches. I use creams and conditioner to keep my mane in order.
