Choosing Concealer

Hi! :)

I never used concealer, so I recently bought one for dark circles. From what I've heard, you're supposed to pick a shade lighter than your skin tone, but I found that the concealer makes the area under my eyes greyish.

Is there anything that I can do with my current shade of concealer to get rid of the grey? And for future purchases, what should I be looking for in a concealer for under eye circles?

Edit: I'm also not choosing to wear foundation (I don't like how it feels on my face), but using pressed powder to set the concealer instead.
I also heard that it's better to do eye makeup first, then concealer because of the fallout. How the heck do you do this, especially with eyeshadow/eyeliner on the bottom part of your eye?! I find that I have a lot of trouble with blending that way.

Usually you do pick a shade lighter than your skin, however I that isn't working then try out a concealer a shade darker and then use a light powder to set it. Also with the eye makeup, do the lid first and you can put eyeliner on before or after, whatever works for you

The company you bought just isn't the right concealer then. There are other concealer that's wont have a grey tint. I would get matched at Mac and then it will be easier to ind other concealers because you will know if you are warm or cool toned.

dont know what brand u purchased. i wuld def get matched and let them know ur concealer problem. for something cheap i have used elf works well for me. Maybe its not the concealer but the setting powder. I had the greyish tone problem with clinique powders but their concealer was awesome... Good luck

It looks grey, because the skin underneath is purple, and you're probably using a yellow/ or neutral colored concealer. If you were using base, I'd suggest a salmon colored corrector over a concealer but since you're not, try to choose a pinkier concealer. It should try to combat the grey. Bobbi brown does a great range of concealers and correctors. And if you're doing a smokey eye or a looks with lots of fall out and shadow, do your concealer after!

Sydneydale A's response is PERFECT! Another suggestion is the concealers from MAC in the "NW" shades ( Neutral Warm ) have a pinky or reddish undertone, which will help neutralize the blueish purpley colours that create dark circles under your eyes
