When I graduated from high school I had no clue what I wanted to do. I chose not to go to college cause I felt like they couldnt offer me what I wanted to study. I chose instead to attend Beauty School. I studied to be a nail tech because I had been doing my own (self taught) nail art for years and really enjoyed it. When I finished, I had an extremely hard time finding a job that was right for me (I can't be around acrylic) so I decided to start volunteering. I have an incurable disease called Crohns and spent many years in and out of a childrens hospital. I figured I would enjoy painting nails for patients and their families because it was always something I wished I had when I was there. I pitched the idea to the people I know there and they asked me to start immediately. I've been doing it once a week since June and I love it. I feel I can relate to so many of these families because I literally grew up in those situations. Its amazing to me that in just 10 minutes with me they leave with a fresh coat of nail polish and a smile on their face. I'm writing about my story because I feel we can all make a difference in the world. Whether its a simple smile to random stranger on the street, donating clothes to the homeless, or even telling a young child who is losing their hair to chemo that they are still beautiful. With all the negativity out there, we need to remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel. "Chin up sweetheart, you're beautiful."
