Hi ladies! I wanted to wear red lipstick, but I don't want it to be "in your face red lipstick", do you have any tips and tricks how to tone down the color? Thanks!! ;)

Try out some tinted lip balms first to get used to wearing red lips. Or try to find a sheer lipstick that gives just a hint of color! Or a red lip stain isn't too bold.

Best advice?? apply the lipstick then blot it. Then take pressed powder and dab it on your lips. tones it down, perfectly.

I prefer my lipstick to be on the sheerer side, so I mix it together with lip balm. I apply lip balm first, then dab the lipstick on with my finger or a brush. Then I do that thing where you rub your lips together to mix both products, and blot with a tissue.

Dab on lightly or with a little pressure on either bottom.. top... or both lips with a blotting paper. it'll also keep it matte, if applying abit of lip gloss on either the corners or center of lips

I like to take a golden or coral color lipstick and pop that right in the center of the lip to tone down bold reds. Turns out really pretty!!

I'm a student and always in class so I can't really wear red lipstick (although I really want to!)

you can always just do your top lip and mash your lips together and work it down to your bottom lip.. which will tone down the brightness and make it a more dull red!:)

Depending on what tone of red you wanted you could always try adding some concealer to it, i always find adding a touch of concealer to my lipsticks helps keep the color lasting longer and gives a nice matte effect :)

The trick to toning down a red is to choose a color that has the same under tone as your complexion to start. That will give you a less vibrant pop. If you have a red you love that goes to the opposite side of the color wheel from your complexion I find neutralizing it is the easiest way to tone it down. For example if you are wearing a blue based red all over your lip apply an orange based red in the center of the mouth to neutralize it. It is an easy trick to make any red wearable. Blue reds are perfect for whitening the teeth and brightening the skin so just a touch goes a long way.
