Ok so i have a question that i think alot of aspiring makeup artist wonder about or has questioned at some point. It seems like alot of people are wanting to become makeup artists .But alot recently ive been seeing it all the time on facebook, instagram, twitter , etc . And at times it can be a bit discouraging not knowing how to set yourself apart from everyone else and actually beable to become successful in this line of buisness. Im no longer an aspiring makeup artist i am an official makeup artist but i still find myself discouraged at times and im sure others feel the same way. Is there any advice or words of encouragement any of you can give to makeup artists and aspiring makeup artists?

Having self confidence & a positive attitude will help you. If you know your good, why hesitate? once you put yourself out there, people will have their opinions, always keep a self reminder of your talents & not let people, comments or negativity steer you away from doing what you love :-)

Me too.leena its alot. Of competition out there it can be discouraging but think of it like this. There are lots of good models, actors, dancers, singers, artists, ect! But everyone is an idividual. It takes more than one person to make a difference. Be happy that you are one in the group that are helping to make.one. Focus on YOU! They are not doing anything that you cant. Pull inspiration from others yet make it your own. Every mua is different. We all have something to add. Dont give up.because I think your work is damn good! We can always improve everyday! Years from now you will look back and say " I have grown". But if you give up. What will you say then? Xoxoxo muah!

Stephanie you are sooo right ,thats exactly how i feel, its alot of competition out there and it just seems like everyone is starting to jump on the bandwagon , no offense to them but it just seems like more and more people are wanting to become a MUA ,its a big pool and its quite discouraging. Its starting to feel like a big competition although its really not. Your welcome love. Stop worrying about other people. Its gonna always be somebody "better" chances are its gonna be somebody "better" than them. Stop looking at as a competition. You only need to be trying to "compete" with you. Stop looking at these other women comparing yourself. You have to focus all the negative energy back into your work! Do makeup for the love, passion, and making others feeling beautiful. If we all worry about other mua's are doing you will never get anywhere. There are lots of women that are "better" than me! You think thats gonna stop me? Hell no! If anything I ask questions and do research on my own. I see them as inspiration in hopes of getting better like them. Because at the end of the day my heart is in this. I dont give a fuck about who better! I got hands just like them so chances are I can do it too! Girls can look at your work and feel like " who is this girl?" "she.is my competition"! You are "better" than alot of girls too! Truth be told you are further ahead than me! You have done makeup for a photoshoot! I have no experience working on models! But YOU do. But am I gonna give up? Hell no! Im inspired to get where YOU are! Dont be quick to sell yourself short doll! ;)

Leanna I was feeling the same way I was feeling like everyone is a MUA now and the same looks were every where and how do I even stand a chance.I've been doing this for years and I almost gave up, but just had to think about why I loved makeup so much it's who I am, it's my passion i love to make people my walking art and that's all that matters.trust in your work and talent.like Stephanie said don't sell yourself short.

The thing I hate the most is that I'm aweful on camera, my accent (puertorican) is not that noticeable but my diction is horrible. I've been trying to record myself but I guess i don't have the right attitude!

I love this post and totally relate at times, but like Stephanie said, you just have to focus on your own talents. What is that thing that people see in you that makes them want to book you? Leanna, whenever you begin to compare yourself to others just remember that we all have insecurities. I think that us makeup artists are way too hard on ourselves, we focus so much on the outer things (how we look, how we sound, etc), we forget that makeup is supposed to be fun! there really are no rules. You just have to use what you admire about others as a learning lesson and inspiration, then pave your own way. Leanna, I admire how vunerable and honest you are in this post, something that I personally need to work on. We're all here to inspire eachother. You'll be fine love xoxo

awwwww thank you Dejeri, i really appreciate you actually admitting that you yourself feel the same way at times too.it really reassures me that im truely not alone and that we all go through our doubts.i wrote this post not only for myself but to other aspiring mua's and even professional mua's who struggle with the same thing and find it embarrassing to reach out to anyone. im glad everyone here is friendly and respectful enough to give positive feedback and genuine encouragement from one mua to another. it truely is a blessing! :)
