Hey girls! I really wanted to add a little something of myself to BeautyLish so i decided to give you my tips on how i lay my edges down.

What you'll need:

A tight headband or a pair of leggings/tights you dont mind getting gel on.
Hair Gel
Hairspray
A bristle brush

Step 1:

So first youre going to take your bristle brush and brush your hair into the desired part. I often do a side part, but you can do middle, or brush it all back for a ponytail.. you get the point!

Step 2: Take a tiny, pea sized amount of gel and smooth it over the first side of the part, then brush it down and get it as straight as you can. Then, do it to the other side, but dont spend too much time on this because every extra second, the gel is permeating onto your hair and making it curl up and freeze. You want to have your headband/tights ready to be put on next to you before you proceed to this step. So make sure both sides of your part have a good amount of gel to keep your hair straight, but dont use too much because that will take FOREVER to dry.

Step 3: Tie your headband or tights onto your hair, in a headband type fashion. I really reccomend using an old pair of tights for this because it helps to allow you to lay the headband part as neatly and close to your hair as possible, and allows you to tie it as tight as you need it to ensure that the gel will slack down. I reccomend getting your headband/leggings as tight around that front edge area as you can, but not too tight to hurt your head.

Step 4: After waiting a MINIMUM of 15 minutes, i reccomend longer if you have time, remove your headband/leggings. Do this and make sure that your headband isnt scrunching or coiling. Like, when you stretch out your headband as you tie it behind at your nape, you want to remember that all that tight tension is layed flat against your newly laid hair, and if you just carelessly pull the leggings off it will recoil and scrunch your hair together, completely destroying your nice edges into a gel filled, tangled mess. I cant explain this too well, just know that you need to keep in mind the amount of stretch you laid on your hair.

Step 5: If youre putting your hair in a ponytail, remember to hairspray the *note* TOP part of your hair, where your edges are secure and the hair that comes before the ponytail elastic. We want that ponytail to be as loose and free as we can have it.

Step 6 (optional): I like to smooth my John Frieda hair serum over my ponytail to keep it soft and shiny from all the heat damage.

So thats my FULLPROOF way to getting smooth, neat edges. I know how sucky it was to suffer from short edges until i realized this method! I even helped my white girl bff with short little baby hairs!
