I really can't afford cutting sheers and I heard if you don't use them your hair will break off. I need a trim severely bad, will regular scissors be ok??

Regular scissors end up giving you split ends in the long run. Your local target or walmart probably has them for under 20$

I guess if it's just one trim it'll be fine just don't make a habit of using regular scissors because you will definitely get split ends.
