It's because your roots are new growth and take color a lot quicker if you don't want color your hair try putting on one of water colors shampoos for five minutes then washing it or and just put the same shampoo in whenever you shower! It worked wonders for me xx

Its because you had previously colored your hair a darker color then colored over it with a lighter color and you can't make your hair lighter when you already have dark color in it so then only the virgin hair will take. Its like using a yellow marker on a black piece of paper, it won't show up. if you are wanting to do a lighter color you have to bleach the dark out first, and with any process with bleach I recommend going to a salon or beauty school if you're on a budget. the temporary fix would be to color it dark again, there's no reliable way to fix it without coloring. best of luck!
