Some makeup basics include primer if you need it, foundation, concealer if you need it, mascara, black eyeliner, a good neutral eye palette and some colored lipgloss. those are the components of a basic makeup look.
I personally don't use primer or concealer because my foundation stays on all day without it and I get enough coverage without concealer. everyone's different.
some good basic tools are...
brushes: there are literally hundreds! the best way to start is to buy an inexpensive but good quality brush kit. coastal scents, bh cosmetics, eco tools and real techniques are mentioned quite a bit on this site
lash curler: invest in a good one! it DOES make a difference
pencil sharpener: quality matters here too. poorly constructed ones will eat your pencils up
tweezers and brow scissors: for those pesky scragglers :)

Brittany this is great,I say slowly but surely your kit will build up little by little you won't need a huge amount of products and foundations eventually you can mix together to find the shades but that's later lol let's see here baby steps try looking at camera ready cosmetics here is the link http://camerareadycosmetics.com/

Definitely build your kit up little by little! It's an investment, but its totally worth it. The main thing you want to make sure of is that you have product available for every skin tone! It really depends on your budget! I know a lot of artists who by every other shade of foundation in a particular formula, so with the in between shades they can just mix it to get the perfect customized color.

Brushes are a must have! They really do the work for you for a flawless application. My favorite brush set has been the Sephora Airbrush collection ($65) for good basic brushes. The MAC 217 brush is my all time favorite as well! Good luck!!

Start small, then go big! I would begin with these products:
-Primer
-Concealer
-Foundation (liquid or powder)
-Black eyeliner
-Basic eyeshadows (try the Urban Decay Naked palette)
-Clear lipgloss
-Lipstick (you can never go wrong with RED!)
-Mascara
-Blush

I would purchase drugstore cosmetics first, because they aren't pricey and if you don't like it, it would be a total waste of money. Good luck!

Definitely try Bhcosmetics.com - they have blush, concealer, and eyeshadow palettes, and brush sets, at crazy low prices. It's not THE best quality ever, but for the price it's a great deal. Make sure to sign up for their emails; they have very frequent sales.
