It's not that bad. The lower lash line is a bit harsh. And there could be more of a gradient with some browns. I think it's a good starting point though

There are different kinds of smokey eyes and when I wear a smokey eye I wear it almost like yours but lighter on the bottom lash area.

Kim, you did well for the true Classic smokey eye.I know most may think it's a bit much but that was the point of smokey eye its a dramatic style dark fade to light and this is it.Most confuse it with the sister smoked out look which is called the Gradient Effect which goes from Light to dark in a cat like style. With the huge amount of eye shadow styles it's quite easy to get a little overwhelmed and confused There are only Two Types of Smokey eye 1) The true classic Dark on the lid and blends upward to nothing. The other is just a smoked OUT style that goes from light on the inside to dark on the outside (The Gradient Effect) but don't confuse it with the actual Smokey eye. Here is a link to a wonderful makeup artist at IMATS he is doing a smokey eye look that I think would help you understand better and show you Kim that you are on the right track :)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpijjR8-90k.
