Black Lipstick: Yay or Nay?

I happen to love the way black lipstick looks, but only with minimal makeup. Cakey foundation, crazy eye makeup, and bold blush, and bronzer is too overwhelming for my eyes. With the black lips being the focus point is very artsy and daring. I love it, I want to wear it to school soon, but I know everyones going to freak out!

if people at school freak out, that's their problem.

For high fashion, yay. For everyday, nay

Go for it. I've been wanting to do a dark purple/black lip for school too, with a soft, nude face, but have chickened out. Do it for me! :D

go for it. i'm all about lipstick, bold oranges, purples (plum to barney purple lol)
Trying anything 'out there' in public is always kinda scary at first. Yeah, people will freak out but WHO CARES! I think you should go for it :)

I like the high fashion look of black lips but honestly I wouldn't wear it for everyday, that's just me. I think cyber by mac is a nice was to build up to black, its a deep dark purple and can be applied very dark, it might be a good colour to have as is a bit more everyday friendly but is dark and can be built up and if your not completely sold on black... might be a good way to go.

Nay on black, yay on colors so dark they are practically black. Leave black lipstick to idiot goth kids who don't know better.
Lou gave you a great option with Cyber. It can be built to near black, so you will get a similar effect, but it's purple so it's better.

I say Yay. I wear lipsticks that are teal, dark blue, purple, mint green, light blue, silver for everyday. Black is definitely a Yay for me.

If you wear the black, I feel you must carefully plan your wanna plan the entire look so it won't come off as something you weren't actually going the grunge look.

If you think black is too much, try mufe #49 with the same basic look everywhere's one of the deepest colors without being black and people stop me to ask what it is when I wear it....if you can forget what everyone else thinks and rock at the black lip/bare face at it :)

Just go for it and screw what others think. Personally I can't sport the look but I certainly appreciate it when others do it.

Depends on what you're wearing it with or for?

Personally I wouldn't do it but that's just because I don't think it looks good on me :) If you want to do it, why not? It's your face, paint it whatever color you want!!!

Yay! I agree with Lou on possibly 'building up' to it. I like to wear dark violets on an everyday basis, especially since it's fall.
Everyone is high school freaks out about everything so I wouldn't worry about that too much. ;) I would love to see a picture of what you do with it!

if you reallllllly wanted to do it, whether people day yes or no would be irrelevant to you:)

I think it's ok, especially for night. Too bad I cannot pull off a bold/dark lipstick look whatsoever...

Big yay! If you are unsure, try this: get black lips lip pencil (nyx) from ulta and UD oil slick lipstick, fill your lip with the liner and go over it. If you don't think the black worked, you can still use the lip stick alone or over bright colors, since oil slick is a very sheer black
