I have extremely oily hair. I know it's best to only wash your hair every other day to maintain natural oil for healthy hair, but my hair feels and looks awful and like an oil slick if I skip days from shampooing. What can I do?? I've tried dry shampoos on days that I don't wash and it always ends up looking gunky and leaving my hair feeling worse. Should I just start using a conditioning shampoo? I have had to use baking soda with shampoo many times to absorb oil in my hair but I don't want to keep doing that because it can strip my hair. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Thanks in advance :)

I dealt with hair just like yours. I have to wash mine everyday. Try using neutrogenas t-gel shampoo (made for dandruff) because this will help dry it out. You can experiment with using a conditioner afterwards if you like, bc this stuff makes my hair super clean but also knotty. I also use batiste dry shampoo, but I don't like the results I get using it on dry hair so I spray it on damp hair and then blow dry, and it gives me some nice texture without weighing my hair down. I hope you find a solution, I know how stressful and annoying overly oily hair can be :/

For a quick fix you could always sprinkle a little baby/talcum powder onto the roots of your hair. Your hair will smell fresh and feel light, but remember not to get stuck in the rain for fear of it creating a paste!

Try non-spray dry shampoos. The ones that are non aerosol powders work a LOT better. The one from Alterna's caviar line has clay in addition to corn/rice starch or talc absorbents. My boss has very thin fine oily hair and she swears by this stuff because she can't wash every day (burgundy red hair color).

I used to have the same problem until I started dying my hair. It helped so much! When I was in middle school I didn't ever dye it a different color, I just found one that was very similar to my natural color and used that. And that's been working for 10+ years. Also Wen really helps. I thought it would do the opposite but the whole not stripping it every day making it necessary to produce less oil to keep up really works. If you don't need all the other products you can usually find them pretty reasonably priced on eBay and Amazon. Around 30 bucks for 16 oz which lasts a couple months and I've got somewhat long hair.

If you struggle with oily hair, or oily roots and dry hair, you may have an issue with balancing your pH levels. sometimes when something is oily we try and use something that'll dry out the problem, but when you do this your body tries to over-compensate for the dryness so it ends up being even more oily the next day. Paul Mitchell has some really great products that will help balance your pH (for hair and skin your pH should be around 4.5-5.5) (this will also make your hair look/feel/be healthier). hope this helps!!

I have Lush's No Drought Dry Shampoo, but with my dark hair it still leaves a grey tint even if I give it time to absorb and shake it out with my fingers. I might try another brand and see if it works better for me.

I might try Wen! I've been wondering about it. Heard a lot of good things.

There are brands that make dry shampoo for darker hair colors. I believe Batiste has a line for dark hair!
