So I wanna try highlighting and contouring but I'm not sure where to start. What kind of makeup should I get for contouring and highlighting? What kind of brush (es) should I use to apply them?

I use NYX's contouring kit and NARS blush in Orgasm. I use a regular blush brush for powder products, but if I'm using cream or liquid products (like a dark foundation and Benefit's Watts Up) I just use my fingers and then a brush for the blush :)

Also, does highlighting and contouring change for seasons? Or is that just a personal thing. I've always been very simple with makeup, foundation, lipstick and mascara. I feel like a noob with all these questions lol.

Highlighting and contouring does really change for seasons. In winter I tend to contour more and in summer I go lighter with the blush and contour for a more natural look since it gets hot. I've heard it's better to get a contour that has no shimmer but mine does and I haven't noticed any problems with it looking odd. Just don't over-do it and it should look fine

Just remember if you're doing your bronzer with a powder use a powder highlighter and blush. If you're using cream, use only cream. I've learned the hard way, but sticking to one type makes it look much more natural. If you're just starting out, cream is best. It's easier to blend than powder. You won't look streaky. Finding a shade with a grey-ish tint is best for contouring though. It mimics shadows better than one with a red or pink tint. The only problem with shimmer is it may not mimic the shadow as well; the light will bounce off of it. However That's basically what you want your highlighter to do. It'll make your high points on your face pop but you want the contours to appear recessed.
