I've heard of putting chopped garlic in your base coat, as a first suggestion. Other than that, try strengthening base coats like OPI Nail Envy, Essie Grow Stronger, or Sally Hansen Nail Thickening Treatment. Use acetone-free nail polish remover, and use lots of hand cream/cuticle cream/cuticle oils. Avoid extended contact with water (it makes them weaker and dry, and they're more easily broken or ripped when wet).

Use gel nail polishes it thickens the nail and prevents breakage :) and file your nails down instead of cutting them!

Actually (not to be rude or a buzzkill or anything) I have on gel polish right now and my thumb nail is in the process of getting a deep break. So gel polish doesn't really help :) but I agree with filing as long as you file in the same direction the whole time, because sawing motions weaken the nail and cause uneven thickness.

Nail strengtheners are actually the worst thing you can do because of the chemicals in them. a healthy diet and lots of water helps nails and hair (:

I push back my cuticles on top and underneath the nail every day, drink lots of water, and moisturize the nail beds with cuticle oil, you can also try taking prenatal vitamins, they have the same compound as a multivitamin but also more calcium and folic acid, some even have more omega-3, plus they'll make your hair grow and help with skin issues too, best one I've used is the GNC brand.

Try biotin! I have extra hard nails, but even those are prompt to break. I've discovered they don't break as mean when they're round shaped
