For my thirteenth birthday my mom took me to MAC. I was so happy. Once there a lady sat me down and pick out what was best for me, my age, my skin and my eyes. He asked how much make up I wanted to be wearing and knowing that too much is waaaaay to much I said minimal. She gave me a coffee brown pencil eyeliner, a powder, warm soul blush (which I adore!), a palette with four very light colors, and some under eye concealer. She also gave me cover up and originally I caked on that because I hated my skin but I thankfully lost it two months later. (it was clogging my pours and giving me acne) I would suggest going to a professional because the teens that don't usually end up looking like raccoons... If you know what I mean.

If you are starting out about 10 years old I think it's ok to have some clear or coral lipgloss and some clear/ black/ brown mascara

Age 16 minimum and/or when you're old enough to get a job and pay for your own makeup, you're old enough to wear makeup.
(Well, if I even have kids, I'd probably do the allowance thing so if they wanted to spend that money on makeup, then whatever.)
Thirteen-year-olds don't need makeup.
Go play outside.
Unless it's triple digits, then stay inside.

up to 15 should be too young, i hate seeing 12 year olds walking arund with a cake face =_= and trying to act my age. However, i reckon there are degrees of make up: i have no qualms with a 13 year old wearing a little eyeliner and mascara, but i reckon a full face should be reserved for 15+ (when there is actually something worth covering lol, spots!! XP) it's unfortunate to see thick make up on a fresh faced pre-teen: they dont need it. im all for experimenting, not wearing it out :)

12 year old and loving make up is fine, i guess. i just dont like seeing pre-teen trying to grow up so fast. i never even touched make up untill i was more into my teens. i wish i never touched most of the face products i did coz i reckon when you have amazing and young clear skin and you put product on it, it only worsens the skin :/

I'm 14 and I wear a fair amount of makeup. To start off I would suggest maybe a bb cream or tinted moisturiser would be best and the smallest amount of transparent powder should me used not to make your skin completely matte, but to make you look like you have a young natural dewy hint to your skin. You could also try using a light peach/coral blusher to enhance your face, some mascara and a tinted lip balm and your ready to go! The best tip I can give you with regards to wearing more makeup I to gradually apply more not just change how you look by applying eyeliner or filling in your eyebrows as friends and family will not see you as a natural beauty and that your not hiding yourself behind a mask of makeup. Hope his helped!

I personally started experimenting with makeup when I was about 5, this meant me using bright powder eye shadows as 'hair dye' and mascara as 'whispers' haha... don't ask, please. But all through school from the age of about 11 till I was 16 I just wore foundation and a small amount of mascara. Since then I wear tones!
I personally think it's acceptable to play with makeup from 3+... but to wear it properly I'd say about 13 on wards...

:) there will be plenty of time for makeup later on! Enjoy being a kid because you definitely won't be one forever and when you're an adult you will miss being able to play!

I started wearing makeup when I was around 11... It wasn't anything extreme. Mostly concealer, mascara and a bit of lip balm. I don't think there is a certain age at all. When the child and parent come to a mutual agreement I believe the child can start of with basic makeup.

Make up should be something that enhances the beauty that you already have. I'm 19 now and I don't wear makeup everyday. When I go out, I'll put on some mascara and maybe some eyeshadow, but most of the time I wear a colored lip gloss. I don't use concealer because my skin is very clear and healthy, and it's that way because of how I took care of it while I went through puberty. At most I would let a 13 yr old (if I was a parent) wear lip gloss and mascara to special events only, but lip gloss and balm are acceptable all preteen years, as long as it's not colored. My mom always told me that when you wear makeup too often (full out makeup) it makes a difference in when you want to get dolled up for a special occasion. People will already be used to your look.

Hi Kaitlin. I am 13 and I just started wearing makeup about 3 months ago. Before that all I wore was lip gloss. Now I wear eye liner, mascara, lip gloss, and occasionally eye shadow. Even now, being 13, every girl want to wear makeup. I did at first, but then I started getting acne and just didn't want to deal with putting it on in the mornings. So, pretty much you're lucky to seem me wear makeup more then twice a month. You may really like makeup when you first start wearing it but then you might think you don't want to use it at all. You just have to look for the best products. Just don't go overboard. Hope that helped :)

Im 15 and I started wearing makeup around 13. My parents said, "you get straight A's throughout this entire year and you get to wear makeup" so I did and I've gotten A's ever since! I only wear mascara and foundation mostly. Not a lot of foundation(I have clear skin) if I'm going to somewhere like Homecoming dance I'll put on some eyeliner maybe a little eyeshadow and some lipgloss... Nothing too heavy. So yes, I'd say 13 would be a good age for some light lipgloss or blush(:

I am fifteen, and I never had any interest in make up until I was almost fourteen and a half, but I think 13/14, because I know I saw some pretty ridiculous looking girls in middle school and even elementry school looking like clowns with gaudy eyeshadow and caked on foundation. And I still only wear mascara and eyeshadow, eyeliner very rarely and only pencil.

Im 16 and I've done makeup since I was 13, I started because I had a hughe intresst to learn about makeup and I thought it was fun to see how I could transform me and my friends to almost whatever I wanted.
I think when people starts to use makeup they often want to become older and look like "the bigger girls" and I think when parents see that happend they should say that they don't have to use that much makeup beacuse they have young beautiful skin and I think children grow up to fast, I remember from when I was litle that if people didn't were makeup they said that there were so ugly whitout and that pushed others to use too early, they didn't want to feel diffrent and alone. I think 13-14 is a good age dependence on what cause they want to start.

I've honestly been wearing makeup since I was 4, only because the dance recitals that I participated in required that you be able to see facial features from the audience, so for recitals only, I wore brown eyeshadow, pink blush and red lipstick. I didn't start becoming hugely involved in my appearance until I was about 13 or so, and even then I had to fight my mom to let me wear it. I never wore foundation though, and the only time I did it was for recitals. I'm glad that I never caked my face, even when it was blotchy and full of blemishes, because now that I'm older, my face is relatively clear and I feel that it is because I never treated it badly when I was younger. I'm 18 and I'm just now starting to wear foundation almost every day, but on my days off and days where I'm only running errands, I'm lucky that my skin is clear enough to forgo foundation.

I think we can all agree that a child in elementary school shouldn't be wearing makeup, but an infant playing with mommy's blush is fine. I think that starting middle school (so around 6th grade) you should be able to wear makeup. And plus, you are going into (almost) high school where things get brutal. I personally don't listen to what other people say about me. I dress and look how I want to, but I know a lot of girls in middle school have self confidence issues (i was one of them) so they want to try and look "older." So I think they should be able to wear what they want.

I don't think there's any specific age where a girl can't experiement with make-up to a reasonable degree. My 3 year old niece plays with kid safe lip gloss and a fake vanity set. As long as you make it a positive experience and encourage make up as fun, I don't believe there any thing as "too young" as they get older you can encourage products right for there age :)

I think there are certain ages for certain products. Lip Gloss is something that is great for any ages. Especially since there are different brands that work for everyone. When I turned twelve, I was only allowed to wear brown eyeshadow. Thirteen and fourteen is a good age to add mascara, and eyeliner, maybe a bit of concealer. I don't think you should use foundation, or blush until you are a bit older.

My mom never knew I played with her make-up at a really young age. Lol. I think I was 10 then but I never actually wore them when I go out. I got familiarized with the stuff and what not. I only started wearing actual make-up when I started college.
I think no younger than 14 is the best age.

To wear it to school I say wait until 8th grade. You shouldn't feel the need to wear it everyday once you "start" wearing makeup. Just when you feel like it or for special occasions.
Don't make the same mistake a lot of younger girls do that is to buy an eyeshadow kit that is poor quality that comes with tons of colors that aren't neutral. Just get some neutral eyeshadow, mascara and maybe an eyeliner or two if you prefer that to eyeshadow.

lip balms and lip gloss are pretty suitable from 9 yrs and on.
12-13 mascara can be added anything more than that is too mature for kids that age.
I dont think you really need to add foundation, blush, eyeshadow and liner etc until you're late 14/15.
that's how I did it and that's what my mom said was appropriate and I totally agree with her now that I'm older and that's the rules I'd lay down on my kids.
I think it's fine for preteens and young teens to play with makeup at home and wear crazy colors there. I don't think it's appropriate for a 12 year old to be wearing a full face daily/in public.

I think 12/13 is a good age to start wearing makeup but even then I think people in that age range should stick to mascara and eyeliner. There's no reason for them to be wearing foundation, (unless of course they have acne) because usually at that age they don't spend much time blending their foundation and what not and it ends up looking cakey and mask like. At the same time I think it is different if a girl/guy is genuinely in to makeup and wants to become a make-up artist, maybe they want to wear more makeup just for the art of it, so idk haha
