This is the response I got from organix regarding Cocamide DEA in some of there products causing cancer.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us! The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment added Cocamide DEA to the California Proposition 65 (1986). Cocamide DEA, is made by reacting the mixture of fatty acids from coconut oils with diethanolamine. It is used as a foaming agent in bath products like shampoos. The Organix products that contained this ingredient were reformulated in June 2012. Any residual inventory prior to June 2012 has been recalled by individual retailers.

We apologize for any inconvenience. Our formulas include many exotic active ingredients and we pride ourselves on using as many non-synthetic, exotic ingredients as possible without jeopardizing efficacy. We want our customers to feel as confident in our products as we do. We hope you will continue to be a valued Organix? customer!

Sincerely, Customer Service

I wrote back asking why some of there products are still on the shelves and still contain this ingredient. ( I have one of their shampoos in my shower with it now). have not gotten a response yet.

You might want to hit up the offending retailers as maybe a few slipped thru the cracks and didn't abide by the change. I know at my local Walgreens the manager I know receives faxes of any recalls and will pull items from shelves. And I'm sure that Organix probably reshipped the products with offending ingredient to other states that don't have a ban on that particular ingredient just so they could avoid a financial loss. Retailers and manufacturers play so dirty when it comes to profits its not even funny.

Shelley I will. I'm not extremely well versed w things like this but I do find it ridiculous that one state would ban a potentially harmful ingredient and another would not do anything about it. either way I'm glad I'm aware of this so I can make a better choices.

I tried this line once and it dried the mess outta my hair. Since I switched up my cleansers and stylers...getting away from ingredient list that read like a novel...I noticed my hair and scalp is much happier. Definitely being aware and researching is the way to go no matter what.

They have one deep conditioner that I am in love w. the shampoos and conditioners eh nothing amazing but I did like that they were sulfate free. I also liked that even though they were sulfate free I didn't have to use a bottle of conditioner afterwards to smooth it out like some other brands. just have to keep trying new ones...poor me lol
