I comb my hair in the shower while my conditioner is setting. that makes it easier to brush after the shower and then it will break less and be healthier :)

Coconut oil castor oil olive oil. All would have to be in its must natural state and taking vitamins. All help with healthy hair grows. And as Devyani said minimize heat you use to do your hair. Meaning minimize the use of hair straighteners, curling wands, blow drying etc. all those things if done in excess cause damage to the hair cuticle. Believe me I can attest to that.

Buy some organic bamboo silica pills. They really work and don't have bad side effects like biotin. In fact silica is extremely good for you and many of the foods we eat are depleted in silica due to how it's grown or how processed it is. Also do an egg mask on your hair once a week. The protein from the egg can make hair grow faster. Also sleep in coconut oil all over your hair and scalp and wash out in the morning. Read the ingredients on your shampoo and conditioners. You want to try and use shampoos that aren't high in sulfates and preferably sulfate free. Also paraben, silicone, and fragrance free if possible)

I'm not sure if it can get that long in a year and a half.. But I haven't used heat much this summer and bc of that I didn't have split ends for months! That really helped with my hair growth

Drink plenty of water daily and eat more proteins, fruit and veg (dark green veggies are the best). Massage your hair every day, wet or dry for about 10 mins and flip your head upside down for 20 seconds so that you can promote circulation in your scalp. Once or twice a week, massage your scalp with almond oil and leave it in for 15-30 minutes before washing it out. A healthy treatment does a lot to make your hair healthy, I use an argan oil from pro naturals and it works great.

BIOTIN! It's a vitamin you can find in the vitamin section of the drug store. Also, put a little bit of camellia tea oil in your hair, but not too much, so it doesn't get too oily looking.
