I'm writing a paper for a class about the nail art trend. If you could just answer this one question, why do you think nail art/different techniques is trending right now?

Thank you <3

So some of the things that are trending right now are just basic colors. These colors can be pastel colors (most likely because of spring- so light blues, pinks, purples, etc), greens (it was predicted that greens would be big this year - especially mint greens and sage greens), hot pink (we like to be bold ;) ), and tangerine tango. Tangerine Tango is the Pantone color of the year, so it's expected to be popular year round, which is why you may be seeing more people with red-orange nails. Asides from the basic colors, it's found that Caviar nails will be very popular this year. The nail design is just coming up and basically works in a way where you drop little beads/balls onto your tacky nails. And you also shouldn't put a top coat on to ensure the beads/balls don't get dull. I believe this is trending right now since it's so unique! It's turning out like shatter nail polish - where people buy something because it's so different and interesting. Plus, it's VERY easy to do to create a cool design - all you do is drop balls/small marbles on your nails and you're done- no top coat either! On top of that, you don't/cannot be perfect with this design, so it has room for errors/is very forgiving as well.

In my opinion, it seems like some people are DIYing this technique though - basically, they're buying Martha Stewart Microbeads in the color they like and are just pouring those on their tacky nails - it gives the same effect and coats a lot cheaper. :)

Hope this helped!

Thanks! I've tried the "caviar nails", I actually just posted a photo of it on my page :)

I've always loved painting my nails. I taught myself how when I was really young. I think the nail trend is expanding because of sites like this, youtube, and facebook. It's so easy to learn how to do things yourself now!!! And, with this economy, who wants to pay a salon to do their nails when they could do it themselves at home?

Good luck with your paper!! :)

No problem! I'll definitely look into your caviar nails. :)
I forgot to mention that ombre nails are also getting pretty big! Maybe it's because of the change in season that people are sporting the deep tones and the lighter tones on one hand, but its becoming popular.
As you can see on the beautylish page, they predict multitoned nails will be popular this summer. This must be because there are so many cute colors out there that people want to try out all at once- especially with the amount of colors that have been becoming trendy.
Big chunky glitter is also very cute/"in" lately.
Oh and julieg on youtube (a guru) believes that these borders are going to be a summer nail trend, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01fbVgQ5Fuk
although they're not my favorite. :o
