Hey everybody!

Next week I am going on a hiking trip with the office. It looks like the weather will be really good on thursday so I was thinking about wearing shorts.

Can I wear shorts (not hot pants) on a trip with the office? There will be a lot of people aswell as the (big) boss..
What should I wear on top?

Have a nice & sunny day:)

Hi Annika, happy Saturday! In my opinion it will be fine to wear shorts to a company function. The rule is usually...place your arms at your side and if the bottom of your shorts are longer than your fingertips your shorts are an appropriate length. Anything shorter could look like a hootchie mama.

On top, me personally, I'd wear a cute t-shirt something not to revealing but comfy enough to hike in.

I agree with Jay on the length of the shorts, and a comfy tee. Wear some really good tennis shoes, otherwise you'd regret it later! And a hat or scarf to protect you from getting ticks, too! Have a wonderful time, Annika! :D

Oh boy! When hiking always wear half pants!
A cute tank top and a light cover up on top. Bring a small back pack with tons of water and a cell phone and camera.
Remember to wear a bug repellent patch, they work better than bug spray. They make you smell a little weird but its better than tons of bug bites.

If you are going to be off a paved trail at any point, wear pants. You want to minimize contact with plants because you may end up in contact with some nasties (stinging nettles, poison ivy/oak/sumac, ticks, fire ants, bees, spiders, thorns...). Bring lots of water, sunscreen, and a hat. You might want to bring a bandana too-- it is good for wiping away sweat or getting wet and tying around your neck to stay cool. Wear sturdy, nonmesh shoes (plant thorns and burrs and stuff will get stuck to mesh) and ankle socks. I find that wearing lighter colors not only keeps you cool, but makes it easier to spot ticks on clothes. When you get home, check your whole body, inside/outside your clothes and any pockets, and your backpack/other accessories.

Have fun!

Emily hit right on the nose. I don't even bother wearing shorts when I hike my local nature preserves...especially after I found a tick on my ankle. I just about passed out. I wear khaki colored camo pants and a white cotton tee shirt. The camos have a ton of pocket space so I don't bother with a cross-over bag. I can hold sunscreen, lipgloss, cellphone and I'd all in two pockets. To keep the mosquitos away wipe your clothes down with scented Bounce sheets (fabric softener). I don't know what's in that stuff but the critters hate it and won't go near me when I have it on. I even wipe my neck and arms down with a few sheets. Also lace up boots and/or comfortable sneakers should be fine and a baseball cap.
