I've seen some tutorials on finger waves that use a curling iron... Aren't they supposed to be made using your fingers? I just want to add some texture to my hair, not a full head of barrel curls haha. Any tips for the "authentic" finger wave?

The best way to do it, is with gel. But probably hard to do on yourself.

If you have short hair use gel or waving lotion, a comb, your fingers & water. Then use the technique of sliding & pinching to mold into the fingerwave. Its a tedious task so you have to be patient. For long hair you can curl your hair, then brush it out using a paddle brush or comb it out from the inside out. Good luck!

Thanks for the answers ladies! Another question: do you use heat at all in this process? Should I be drying the section I'm working on?

Your welcome Sean & its talky not necessary. You'll see that with the gel it'll dry really fast & turn hard. That's why the spray bottle is recommended to make it more manageable.
