It depends on what you are using the blood for. I use a few different things in my gore looks based on the type of wound and situation. Bottle of Blood is a liquid fake blood available at costume stores. It is runny and good for splatters, fresh wounds that are still bleeding, and staining clothes/skin. Blood Gel is thicker, and looks more coagulated. It will slowly dry into a crust, which looks almost scabby. It is also available at costume stores. For the painted part of wounds I use an "injury stack", which is cream makeup in several colors (black, dark red, crimson, brownish purple, and greenish yellow). The dark red goes in the center of the wound where the fleshy tissue would be, brighter red towards the outside where blood would be oxidized, the purple and yellow makes bruises, and black can add depth to a wound or can be stippled for burns.

If you want to make fake blood, red gel food coloring, cornstarch, and water can create some relatively inexpensive and decent blood. I don't have an exact recipe off the top of my head.

Thank you so much :) it's make up for a stage show. Like bloody scratches on gladiators and slaves. Thanks for your advice!

For scratches in a stage show, the red greasepaint and eye shadow you mentioned should probably work just fine. Just be sure to create the illusion of depth and texture so it doesn't look like painted on stripes. :) Glad I could help!

Aw thanks hon. I've had a ton of practice making injured/undead/cyborg/vampire people and I had lots of help learning so I try to help when I can.
