Sounds less like normal split ENDS that people get and more like breakage/damage =/
It is probably a combination of any heat used on your hair which is drying it out and then of course if you aren't using conditioner that probably is adding to the dryness which is causing the hairs to break.
Once a hair strand has split, you can not actually repair it. Hair is dead when it comes out of your head, so there is unfortunately no way to mend the split aside from cutting it off and starting fresh
Since the splits are all the way at the top of your hair I would just recommend laying off on heat, definitely using a GOOD hydrating conditioner and trying to keep your hair from being damaged any more while you wait for it to grow out. And then eventually trimming off the breakage and starting fresh

If you have split ends that far up there is really nothing you can do to get rid of them but to cut your hair, yes you can start using conditioners and try to put some moisture back in your hair, but as far as repair, not going to happen. Atleast those methods will make your hair appear healthier

Heat, lack of conditioner, or wearing your hair up/back a lot can all cause this. Don't skip conditioner-it only adds, literally, 3 minutes to your routine. Take Biotin, it will help your hair grow faster & stronger. Use a heat protectant, quality products *from a salon*, & be gentle.
