What is the best way to clean brushes? I've heard many different stories, and ruined many brushes. I just got new ones and don't want to ruin them too. Thanks XD

MAC's brush cleaner is amazing, I like to clan my brushes after every use with it but once a week I deep clean my facial brushes with baby shampoo :)

For eyeshadow or powder brushes, I use a spray brush cleaner every day. You can get them lots of places. I know MAC has one. Mine is Sonya Kashuk from Target. Once a week or so I clean them with a gentle baby shampoo and warm water. Make sure to hold the brush pointing down so water doesn't get into the ferrule where it can damage the glue that holds the bristles. Also, don't use really hot water for the same reason.
For brushes that I use in cream or liquid products, I clean them after every use with the baby shampoo and warm water.
For really stubborn products that don't want to come out, I'll dab the brushes in oil first. I use olive oil, grapeseed oil or my facial cleansing oil, whatever is handiest. And then clean them with baby shampoo and warm water.
I lay them flat to dry. It's probably best if you can angle them so water will drain away from the ferrules, but I don't really have a way to do that, so I just lay them flat.
If you're worried about them keeping their shape, you can use brush guards or Sigma also has a dry and shape product.
Hope that helps.

I just baby shampoo mine, but i'm not an MUA so i don't have to worry too much about antibacterial properties. But it is a bit of a chore when you have quite a few brushes to clean.

Baby shampoo for deep cleaning is what I do. I also read a blog post done by Xsparkage about a home made brush cleaner that is as good as macs. I haven't used it yet but plan to and I trust her on this kind of stuff! Here is a link to the post :)

Baby shampoo would be okay but I use Parian Spirit. Works well plus I love the citrus scent it leaves on my brushes :)

haha, was going to post the same link as Rachele did :)
The other day I came across a cleansing spray and shampoo on the e.l.f. website - never tried it but it's cheaper than MAC's and makes it a less waste of money if it wouldn't work for you.

it depends how you want to clean them, for everyday use, I personally use alcohol to kill any bacteria, or deep cleanse them(every week), what I use is a mix of extra virgin olive oil and dish soap, just make sure that the ratio is about 3:1 I think should work, 3 parts soap and 1 olive oil, you can add a bit more of oil depends how you feel the consistency, kinda hard to explain :/
but any foundation in the brush will come off, the bristles will get soft, because the olive oil acts as conditioner and the soap will take off any oils that might be lying around.
any stains on any brush will do so as well, and this can be used with any brush from eyeshadow to foundation.
hope this helps :)

Put some Brush cleanser in the closure, drench your brush in it and start swirling it on a papertowel.
It works great for all kind of brushes!

For everyday cleaning I use clinique's brush cleaner. For my deep cleans, I use dr bronner's castille soap. That stuff is amazing! It pulls all the makeup out of my brushes, is very gentle on both my natural and synthetic brushes, and it brings my white brushes back to snowy perfection. Hope that helps : )

I prefer using baby shampoo or olive oil & hand soap mixture. It's not necessary to spend extra money on brush cleansers. You can read the details from my post here :) http://beautyplaylist.tumblr.com/post/20534627356/home-remedies-for-cleaning-your-makeup-brushes

I use shampoo (the stuff for color-treated hair, as it helps to preserve the brush) and distilled water. I use brush guards to dry them so that they dry quickly and in the correct position. Never use any oils on your brushes (I ruined so many thanks to someone telling me to use olive oil and dish soap!) and use alcohol sparingly as it damages the brush hairs every bit as much as it would damage your hair. I spray alcohol on a tissue and use that to wipe the brush - never soak!
