Using Hard Candy's High Def Glitter Tube things.

I got the hard candy high def glitter cream eye shadows. they come in a tube and have a lipgloss like applicator. I have the silver one (i think its called Robot, and the purple one). I feel like I might not being doing something correctly. When I apply them all over (including over a primer) they dry out quickly and then my lid becomes very stiff. Does anyone have any advice on how I could use these without such uncomfortable results? Hopefully these bad results are my silly mistake since I love the colors.

I've never used them on their own, always over some sort of eyeshadow base, and I've never had any problems with it. Maybe try even a neutral eyeshadow color and then apply them ontop?
