I am looking for a foundation or bb cream for super dry skin with good coverage that doesn't feel super thick, any recommendations?

Nars sheer glow foundation is grata for dry skin. But really your moisturizer and primer will help it before your foundation. You need a hydrating foundation like smashbox's hydrating primer. Hope it helps 😊

So can I use one of these primers with the tarte bb cream or do I need to switch to a moisturizing foundation?

My post-menopausal skin is like the freaking SAHARA. I can't use most foundations anymore because they cause such bad dry, flaky patches. So here's my routine.
1. After cleansing my face I apply Tarte Maracuja oil. Using 4-5 drops total (it doesn't take much!) I gently tap it into my face, concentrating on the driest areas. I wait a moment it to sink in.
2. I put 2-3 squirts of moisturizer into my palms to mix with the residual Maracuja oil (I use CeraVe PM moisturizer). I apply this to my face, again concentrating on the driest areas, finishing with a patting motion as opposed to rubbing.
3. While that's sinking in I apply eye cream (I use a variety). My undereye area is the driest part of my face. I let this cream sink in.
4. For my foundation: depending on the quality of my skin that day, I use a few different products. Most days I use Missha Perfect Cover BB cream, spreading it with my fingers. If I want more coverage, I use NARS Sheer Glow. I squeeze a pump onto my mixing palette or the back of my hand and add in a few drops of Lancôme Éclat Miracle (an illuminator with no sparkle in it) to give my dry skin a soft glow. If my skin is especially dry and I still see a lot of flaky patches, I'll also mix in 1 or maybe 2 drops of the Maracuja oil. I then apply with my fingertips, allowing the warmth of my fingers to help the product "melt" into my skin.
5. These days I tend to avoid applying foundation with a brush of any kind. My skin has become so dry since menopause that no matter what I do, brushes tend to micro exfoliate and exacerbate flakiness and dry patches. For heavier coverage days I will use a dampened Beauty Blender.
6. After my BB/foundation is on I put a few more pats of eye cream on (sooooooo dry!) and let it sink in again.
7. I apply my concealer with both fingertips and a small brush. I mainly use MAC Select Coverup as it gives opaque coverage but doesn't dry out my skin.
8. Apply my undereye concealer (NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer) in gentle pats with my pinky finger. I run a little underneath my brows and apply my eye primer.
9. I set my undereyes with powder (MAC MSFN) using a Real Techniques Setting Brush. Then I use a soft kabuki brush (MUFE) and the MSFN to gently set my whole face, in a rolling/pressing motion.
10. After eyes and everything else are done, I finish by sprit zing with MUFE Mist and Fix or Evian mist if my face still feels too dry.
At the end of the day I always do a two-step cleanse: I use a few drops of Maracuja oil mixed into Cetaphil cream to dissolve the makeup, and then follow with a foaming cleanser.

I've been having trouble with primers: I dislike heavy silicone primers and they break me out, but primers with less silicone tend to amplify the flaky patches and cause my foundation to "stick" to them. The 3 I do like, however are the 2 Hourglass ones (No 28 and Mineral Veil) and the new NARS Radiance Enhancing primer.
