Gently pull the side of your eyelid and with one swipe just glide it on. Then touch up.

I try too but it doesn't work ugh! And when I try to fix it , it gets super thick!

I do mine in short lines, then at the end I go over the whole thing. That's the only way I can get it right. Also like Olivia said, pull your lid outwards because that makes a smooth surface to draw on.

I find it easier to use a eyeliner pen instead of the pencil however I have the same problem!!

Is it better to use the crayon eyeliner or the pencil?

If the difference between those is the thickness, I'd say go with thinner. Its easier to mess up with thicker pencils because they're not as easy to control, whereas thin pencils create thin lines and are much easier to work with. At least in my opinion. To be honest, though, everyone has different opinions on eyeliner. If you're still learning/getting the hang of it, I'd stick with pencil for now.

Or if one of those is a liquid or a felt tip, I still say go with a pencil. If you make a mistake its easy to correct (as opposed to liquid) and also more easily controlled than liquid liner brushes. Gel can be a good alternative, however, and you'd put it on using an angled eyeliner brush. But again, if you're still learning, stick with a pencil for now.

I had a crayon eyeliner some time ago and I couldn't figure out how to put it on my upper lid, but now I've bought the liquid eyeliner and it's so much easier :)

I recommend trying a gel liner with a thin angled brush.
