I'm thinking of getting my tongue pierced but abit unsure of the swelling aspect of it, as I work weekends answering phones I would need to book time off to allow time for swelling, what are your experiences with tongue piercing and swelling, how long did yours swell up for and when did you have your bar changed for a shorter one?

The swelling lasted up to a wk from what I remember and during that time could hardly eat. If get it stick to soft foods, things with low sodium nothing spicey, eat ice cream should help with swelling.

Mine was swelling lasted a whole week & then it went down. I couldn't says my R's lol! I was very careful with what I ate. because they said stay away from dairy foods, I tried eating ice that didn't work, I couldn't eat because my tongue was huge & food would get stuck onto the bar, I'm a big baby when it comes down to needles. I was so scared but for some reason I got it ;D it didn't hurt, you feel the needle go threw but its on of the fastest piercing, I changed my bar within a month or so. I wanted it to heal good, I wasted my tongue ring every morning and night with sea salt.! that helped with the pain , I would suggest getting it over the holidays is you have vacation since Thanksgiving iS coming aand Christmas,

When I got my tongue pierced I was able to talk perfectly after the second day although it was still swollen. It takes practice, but it's possible. You'll still sound a bit different, but people will be able to understand you. I agree that the ice doesn't work. It just makes the ring freezing and seeing as it's going through your tongue, it's not a good feeling whatsoever. Make sure you keep it clean. I used warm water and sea salt. Good luck.

When I got mine done it was swollen for about a week. The first two days were the worst. I could talk fine but eating normal food was a bit difficult.

Mine was just really swollen for a week, I couldn't chew so Mostly all I ate was yogurt/ apple sauce. It's all worth it in the end(: I had Mine on for two years, then I just got over it and don't wear it anymore, but the hole is still open lol

I pierced my tongue on a whim when I was 16. It didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would and it was only swollen for about 2/3 days. I was talking fine after that but still stuck to soft food the first 5 days.

I was thinking about getting mine done as well, and I'm only hesitant because I've heard that tongue piercings can ruin your teeth. I've had braces on my bottom teeth so obviously I don't want to reverse that in any way, what do you guys think? Have you had any issues with your teeth with your piercing?

They can chip your teeth but that's only if you play with it and rub it against your teeth.

I've had mine done for 6 years now, it didn't hurt to get it done and mine didn't swell much, I was able to eat fine just took some getting used to having something foreign in my mouth, I could talk fine that didn't affect me at all. Over all it was not a bad experience at all. No problems. I think it depends on likely you are as a person to swell. If you swell easily when you hurt yourself and stuff.

You can chip your teeth if you play around with it, and its a bigger chance if your ball is metal, if you have acrylic balls your fine, they aren't has heavy or hard to chip your teeth.
