I apply lip balm loads of times every day and I just can't live without it.. if I forget to carry it I'll go out of my way to buy a spare and I always keep a stash. is it bad?

No. Maybe it's bad for your wallet but if you're buying the right kind of lip balm it's good for your lips :-)

Greta I am the same my lips get dry easy and I have to carry lipgloss always! I thought I was addicted too lol it can't b a bad thing to stay moisturised.

Girl, I'm on the same boat. I don't think you understand how much Chapstick I have. It's crazy! I HATE chapped lips.

Yes, it actually is bad if you're using the wrong kind. Over time most chapsticks are drying so that you do become addicted to them!

Along with what emily said, your lips get so used to being 'fed' moisture that they stop producing as much of their own. if you ever need to stop, look forward to 3 weeks of dry as sand lips. I had to break my habbit a few months ago.
